Detailed information on Valentines 4 Veterans

Our purpose is to provide a way for the community to connect with and show their appreciation for Veterans in our communities and our Active Duty members serving around the world. We invite clubs, schools, families, businesses and church groups to participate. Be creative and make homemade valentines, write messages of gratitude for the veterans’ service to our country and our freedoms. The more we collect the more we can send. We sell our specially designed valentine for $1.00. Contact us to order these special valentines and write your message on the back. The proceeds of the sales assist us purchasing candy for the boxes, mailing the packages. During our first four years with the assistance of the community, we collected and delivered over 22,000 valentines from across the nation, hundreds of pounds of candy and many boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. We read every valentine and are touched by the words of love, support and encouragement that were written to the veterans and active duty members. During the week of Valentines Day, volunteers pass out valentines to Veterans in the VA Hospital, VA nursing homes, Veteran Homeless Shelters, and to a variety of other institutions around the region. We connect with the veterans heart to heart and thank each one for their service to our country. Valentines and candy are sent to our Active Duty service members around the world. Over 150 boxes of 250 valentines, candy and cookies are sent to servicemembers state side and around the world. The person the box is sent to is asked to pass the valentines and treats our to those serving with them. We are collecting valentines, treats and financial donations now for our 2012 Valentine delivery. It doesn't matter where you live in the nation. We are also accepting addresses from family members across the nation wishing a box be sent to their loved ones. We will send as many boxes as we can to soldiers in the order we receive names and as many boxes as we receive valentines. A letter is sent with each box identifying the group that contributed to the donations. If a response comes back from the service member, we send the letter to the group that provided the valentines. This provides the connection back from the service members to our community members.

Valentines are starting to come in!!! Thank you so much. I have had calls and emails from groups across the nation joining with us making their valentines and emailing them here. Let's rock this year and make it the biggest ever!!! :-)
Tomorrow I will announce delivery schedules for Utah sites. If you live outside of Utah, if you would like to schedule delivery to a VA hospital or VA nursing home near you, let me know and I will see about getting you valentines and you can deliver them where you are.
Valentine gift bags are stuffed and ready for the Veteran homeless shelters. Thanks, Kaitlyn!
I have received 5 addresses for servicemembers stationed stateside and deployed overseas. Yeah!!!! Hoping to also send enough valentines to all serving on an aircraft carrier. That is 6,000 for the ship alone :-) We can do it. Keep sending addresses. I will send as many boxes as I have valentines.
We make a difference one valentine at a time. Just think, if every night you sat down and wrote 5 messages a night, you would have 70 written by Valentine's day. Messages of love, support and gratitude will make a difference in the lives of our veterans and active duty servicemembers!

Each box includes a note requesting the recipient share the contents and our love with those they are serving with.

Participants from across the country have joined with us in writing valentines and financial donations to assist us to mail the packages ($13.00 each) and add treats. Families of service members, entire schools, scout troops, preschools, church and family groups and others join with us. 100% of all donations is used for this drive.

Feel free to copy this and pass it on to your family, friends, and co-workers. Take pictures of your group in action making valentines and send pictures to us. Most of all have fun and create as many as you would like to. Email me and I will send you a copy of the flyer once it is done and this invitation to participate letter.

In addition to writing notes, we are collecting addresses of service members currently deployed or stationed around the world. We will send a box of valentines to them. If you know of someone who is currently serving anywhere in the world, please send us their full address and we will ensure they receive a box. Boxes will be sent beginning January 15, 2016.

The final labels are carefully placed on a stack of small white boxes sealed with special patriotic tape ready for a journey that will take some of them halfway around the world. Nestled inside each box are treats and a selection of two-hundred-fifty handwritten valentines. These messages of love, gratitude and appreciation are part of the 4th Annual Valentines for Veterans drive.
Spearheaded by non-profit charity Angels in Action in partnership with the Salt Lake Community College Veterans Center, Valentines for Veterans is an inspiring endeavor to communicate gratitude and love to both Veterans as well as Active Duty military members stationed around the world. These gifts are a beautiful acknowledgement of the thankfulness felt for the freedoms we enjoy.
Long before stores began stocking Valentine’s Day merchandise, the Valentines for Veterans drive was underway in communities across the Wasatch Front. Along with families, friends, church and civic groups and clubs, many schools participated in this year’s Valentines for Veterans effort. The young children and teachers of Apple Day Care created over a thousand valentines and donated boxes of candy as well. Participating schools this year included Reading Elementary, Park City Day School, Beehive Elementary, Gerald Wright Elementary School, Southland Elementary, Wellenmann School of Discovery, Evergreen Junior High, Vista Heights Middle School, Kearns Junior High and Taylorsville High Key Club.
On the Friday and Saturday before Valentine’s Day volunteers gathered to pass out valentines to the residents of the VA Hospital, as well as several Nursing homes and Shelters in the region with veteran residents. This opportunity to connect heart to heart with those who have served to protect and defend our freedoms brought tears to many eyes. For many of the volunteers, grateful was truly the only word to describe the experience.
Girl Scout Troop 2532 requested the chance to revisit local Midtown Manor for the second year in a row. The girls put on a small program; singing songs of patriotism and friendship and then personally delivered valentines to the residents of which about 90% are military veterans. The enthusiasm and love of each member of Girl Scout Troop 2532 was a ray of sunshine for the residents of Midtown Manor. The troop, also, provided hundreds of additional valentines and boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be sent to Active Duty personnel serving overseas.
Since its inception the Valentines for Veterans campaign has delivered over 21,000 valentines and letters of support to our veterans in hospitals, nursing homes and shelters. In addition, almost seventy boxes of two-hundred-fifty valentines each have been mailed to Active Duty military members around the world. For those who participate in Valentines for Veterans each year, this is a campaign of gratitude; appreciation and love for those who serve protect and defend our freedoms.
