It's vital that all Utahn's listen to this week's KUER 90.1 RadioWest, "A People’s History of the Nuclear West." Will Utah's four Congressmen vote to extend the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)? It will expire on June 7 unless our Representatives champion its extension. It's vital that you encourage them to act, and act now, to extend RECA.

In 1951, the U.S. government began test detonations of nuclear bombs in the Nevada desert. It wasn’t long before people started getting cancer.

In the "aren't we glad we're not like other red states" category, we learn today through the U.S. News and World Report "Best States Rankings" for 2024 that Louisiana is the worst state in the nation for the second year in a row.

The list considers performances in categories such as health care, education, economy, internet, roads and public safety. As reported by WNTZ-TV FOX 48, Louisiana placed 50th in crime and corrections, was 47th in education, 46th in health care and 49th in the natural environment. It was also 49th in the economy, 41st in fiscal stability, 49th in infrastructure and 44th in opportunity.

Oh, in the same news reporting, displays of the Ten Commandments in Louisiana schools could soon be required.

A House committee in Minnesota has proposed equal rights for women.

Ahem. What year is this?

Yes, you heard that right. Their state's House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee has approved a proposed constitutional amendment guaranteeing equal rights for women, including a provision that would guarantee access to reproductive care. If the bill passes the full House and Senate, it would appear on November’s ballot.

Republicans tried multiple times to send the language back to other committees or table it altogether.

DFL Leaders want to put a constitutional amendment before Minnesota voters in 2026 that would extend to abortion rights and gender identity. It differs from a version that cleared the state Senate.

Democrat Rep. Brian King has chosen our colleague Rebekah Cummings as his running mate for Utah Lieutenant Governor! "She is a vocal advocate against banning books and opposed this year’s HB29, which allows a book to be banned across Utah if three school districts vote to ban it."

King and Cummings will face either incumbent Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson or Rep. Phil Lyman and Layne Bangerter on Election Day in November. Cox and Lyman face off in the June 25 Republican primary.

Rebekah Cummings is the Utah Democratic Party’s nominee for lieutenant governor in this year’s gubernatorial election, the party announced Monday afternoon. She joins Brian King on the ticket.

BREAKING. Unlike Utah's Gov. Spencer J. Cox, Arizona's Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed her state's Republican backed SB 1151 which would have allowed the Ten Commandments to be displayed and read in classrooms.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed two Republican-backed education bills. SB 1151 would have allowed the Ten Commandments to be displayed and read in classrooms. Critics say it imposes religion upon students, while supporters say they're important values to teach to children. SB 1097 would have req...

O' Utah, Utah. With a sigh of relief one extremist is out, only to be replaced by another.

"While GOP Delegates ousted [Natalie] Cline on Saturday, they gave the party nomination in state school board District 7 to Kris Kimball, who defeated incumbent Molly Hart. Kimball, who holds many of the same political positions as Cline, said she “felt a nudge from God” to get into the race.

”We all know the damage that critical race theory can have on our children, teaching them to judge others by skin color. It is counter to our Christian values and what Dr. Martin Luther King preached,” she told delegates. “He spoke about the day when his four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Pure bunk. First, what she describes, if the Tribune reporting is accurate, is not critical race theory. Second, critical race theory does not damage children and, to boot, there is no evidence that CRT is being taught in Utah schools. What is damaging to children is the propagation of racism and the denial that systemic racism has and continues to exist.

Let's hope that more reasonable heads will prevail and support Molly Hart in the upcoming June primary election.

Controversial Utah State School Board member Natalie Cline was shockingly ousted from her seat on Saturday after she was defeated at the Salt Lake County Republican Nominating Convention. Republicans in Salt Lake and Davis counties cast ballots for their preferred nominees for many 2024 elections on...

Does Utah finally have a competitive U.S. Senate race? The New York Times has identified Utah's as one of "Ten Senate Races to Watch in 2024" saying, "Utah is nobody’s idea of a swing state, and the retirement of Senator Mitt Romney at the end of his term has drawn in nearly a dozen Republicans ahead of the June 25 primary, including Rep. John Curtis; Brent Orrin Hatch, the son of Senator Orrin G. Hatch; and Brad Wilson, the former speaker of the State House. But one Democrat made waves with a unique announcement video: Caroline Gleich, a professional ski mountaineer."

Democrat Caroline Gleich should be a long shot, but what if Republicans nominate MAGA extremist Trent Staggs? All bets may be off.

With Democrats holding a one-seat majority and defending seats from Maryland to Arizona, control of the Senate could easily flip to the G.O.P.
