This message is being reposted to our site from our friends at Hanger and Otto Bock.

Dear Texas Colleagues,
This April, during Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM), we invite you to join Hanger and Ottobock as we head to the Texas Capitol to raise awareness and advocate for key legislation that will improve access to care for the limb loss and limb difference community. Texas residents have the opportunity to impact O&P legislation more profoundly than any other state this year as the only state that does not cover O&P care for people over 21 years old who are enrolled in Medicaid. This is a great opportunity for us to partner with Ottobock and the broader O&P community in support of meaningful change!
When: April 16 | 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: The Domain → Texas State Capitol (Austin, TX)
What: Advocate for LLLDAM and in support of legislation that will directly impact our patients.
How: Transportation will be provided via bus for all participants from The Domain.
The day kicks off at the Hanger Resource Center in The Domain before we travel together to the Capitol for a rally in support of two important legislative bills impacting O&P care. SB1466/HB 5544 requires coverage for O&P care for those over 21 receiving Medicaid benefits and HB 426 requires coverage of Cranial Remolding Orthoses (CRO) for Medicaid beneficiaries with craniosynostosis, plagiocephaly or brachycephaly. We are actively working to add a third So Every BODY Can Move (SEBCM) bill to the agenda as well. Participants will attend a mixture of scheduled meetings and drop-ins based on their district alignment to help support these bills.
You can register(see the URL below) to secure your spot (and a t-shirt!), and they’ll follow up with more details, including a training session the week of the event on how legislative meetings flow and how to tell your story. https://ottobock.formstack.com/forms/llldam_capitol_hill_2025
Can't make it in person? You can still support the cause by writing to your legislators in support of bills that will make a difference in O&P.
Let’s come together to make an impact. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,

Justin Pfaff, CPO- Hanger, VP of Growth & Transformation
Maggie Baumer, JD - Hanger, Leaddr of Enterprise Patient Advocacy

The NEW Texas Associat

We are pleased to announce that the transition to a single organization is now complete with both TAOP and TCAAOP voting at their 2019 annual membership meetings to move to a single organization with a new name and new bylaws. This will now enable a single organization to be inclusive of licensed O&P professionals in the State and provide a unified voice for the O&P profession. One strong, unified professional organization can bring together the more than 400 licensed professionals in Texas for more opportunities to engage in the profession and allow for an increased presence and strength for legislative concerns.

The 2019 board members from TAOP and TCAAOP will serve as the Interim Board until new board members are elected at the 2020 first annual meeting of TSOPP. The goal is for the Interim Board to organize the 2020 annual meeting and continuing education conference while leaving major changes to the structure of how the professional organization will run to the newly elected board next year. Our hopes are that engagement of O&P professionals can happen at both a board member level and committee level, as there are plans for various committees to help engage and inform the profession in a greater capacity than before.

As we approach the 2020 Annual Conference to elect new board members and see the work of the new Society begin, please be thinking of how YOU can be involved with the new professional organization. Talk with your co-workers and other colleagues about ideas for how a single O&P organization can best serve our great profession in Texas. When we all step up through our membership and engagement, imagine the possibilities the Texas Society of Orthotic and Prosthetic Professionals has.

Please add the new general information email address to your contacts, info@txsop.org, as communications will be sent from this address. Be anticipating an email once plans are finalized for the date and location of the 2020 Annual Conference with details.
