What Most Doctors Never Ask... and How It’s Connected to Your Vagus Nerve.
Today, We will talk about one of the most fascinating and overlooked, systems in your body: the Cranial NERVE 10 – Your vagus nerve. This single nerve connects your brain, gut, heart, lungs, and immune system, controlling everything from digestion and inflammation to mood and energy. Think of it as your body’s internal “PEACHKEEPER.”
When it’s balanced, you feel calm, clear, and strong. When it’s off, everything starts to unravel, digestion slows, anxiety rises, heart rate changes, and inflammation takes over. Here’s the problem: At a typical doctor’s visit, no one’s asking about your vagus nerve. You’re asked: “What are your symptoms?” Then you’re often handed a prescription to quiet them... but the real question, “why”, never gets asked.

From my point of view, as a doctor, we should look at things differently! I believe it starts with curiosity: “What is your body trying to tell us?” We would then explore how all of your systems are talking (or not talking) to each other.
We begin with multiple questions about the total functionality of your body! We ask questions to understand how your body is currently dealing with the following: Energy, Fatigue, & Metabolism; Inflammation & Any Painful Issues; Your Gut & Digestive Functions; The Nervous System & Vagus Nerve Regulation; Brain, Your Cognition, Processing, Mood, & Recall Abilities; Any Hormonal & Metabolic Changes; All Cardiovascular & Circulatory Concerns; Your Lungs, Breathing In & Out Capacity; Detoxification & Cellular Clearance Abilities; Immune Function & Response to All Invaders; Your pH & Fluid Balance; as well as Your Skin, Hair, Nails, and any other External Signs or Concerns!
These kinds of questions reveal how stress, toxins, nutrition, sleep, medications, and your microbiome influence your vagal tone (the strength of your vagus nerve response).
Instead of symptom-chasing, we should identify the root causes, restoring calm to the entire system. Because when your vagus nerve fires correctly, your body heals faster. LIKE A CAR, WHEN IT FIRES ON ALL CYLINDARS IF RUNS SMOOTHLY!
