This was a quick picture of a training I gave last week to the chaplains from the Diocese of Brownsville. They are a wonderful group of people who counsel patients during and their families during the hardest moments. The goal of my training was to increase their emotional granularity (knowledge of emotional vocabulary). We gifted each chaplain the book Atlas of the Heart by: Brene Brown to use as a resource for their patients and themselves. I am so honored that the Diocese has trusted me throughout the years to train them on a variety of mental health topics.

My husband was my high school sweetheart. We started dating at 16. There was no texting or social media. We wrote each other letters and talked on the phone for hours a day. We always knew we would get married but we had to wait for our age to catch up with our love. At 27 we got married in an old theater. The lights were all dimmed and the dome-shaped ceiling was lit up in a way that it looked like the night sky. We danced on the theater stage, while under the moonlight. It was magical! We have grown up into adults by each other’s side and are now experiencing the journey of being parents together. This is our corny love story. ❤️ What’s yours? This a beautiful group of chaplains that welcomed me with an open heart today for a training. The theme was how to understand and change your state of mind in your personal life and work place. The work these chaplains do ever day is inspiring and we learned from each other.

Definition of upgrade: “raise to a higher standard, improve by adding or replacing components.”
This is my word of the year. I want to upgrade not only material things like my kitchen toaster and nightstands LOL but myself. I want to raise myself to a higher standard. I want to add practices to my life that will bring me joy and peace. I want to replace inner thoughts and beliefs that do paralyze me. I want to upgrade the relationship I have with myself.
