In reading Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy — Francine Shapiro, pp. 6–7
We learn that EMDR isn’t just symptom relief. It’s an integrated approach: working with past memories, present triggers, and future functioning together. Early neglect didn’t just hurt emotionally; it shapes the nervous system. EMDR helps restore what was missed.
🤔How do you explain EMDR’s whole-person focus?

Friend… spiritual hygiene matters.

Just like you wash your hands and brush your teeth, your spirit needs regular care too.
What you listen to.
What you tolerate.
What you replay in your mind.
What you hold onto long after it’s expired.

Pause.
Breathe.
Release what doesn’t belong to you anymore.
Tend to your inner world with the same devotion you give your outer life.

✨ Cleansing your spirit isn’t extra — it’s essential.

🤔What does spiritual hygiene look like for you today — prayer, rest, movement, boundaries, silence? Drop one word below.

In reading EMDR Basic Principles Protocols and Procedures, we learn that not all EMDR targets are obvious trauma. Some are big events.
Others are years of being overlooked or emotionally dismissed. Nothing “big” happened...however the belief “I don’t matter" formed. That’s a valid EMDR target.
🤔Question:
What small patterns do you see shaping clients’ beliefs?

🧠 Your nervous system isn’t broken.
It’s brilliant.

Your body already knows how to rest.
It remembers rhythms that existed long before productivity culture told us to override them:

• slower mornings
• natural pauses during the day
• seasonal shifts in energy

Burnout isn’t a personal failure.
It’s what happens when ancient nervous systems are asked to function inside modern, relentless systems.

✨ Self-care isn’t about fixing yourself.
It’s about listening instead of pushing.

What is your nervous system asking for today — rest, movement, silence, or connection?

In reading EMDR Basic Principles Protocols and Procedures, we learn that EMDR supports adult capacity, not just symptom relief.
Before: “I shut down in conflict.”
After: “I can speak up without freezing.” NOW! That’s growth!
🤔As a therapist, where do you most notice this shift: In clients voice, boundaries, or confidence?

12/29/2025

From an EMDR Lens: Most symptoms start earlier than we think. Anxiety or work stress often connects to old memories of criticism or not feeling “good enough.” The present activates the past.✨ Do you notice current stress linking back to earlier experiences in your clients?

Healing Was Never Meant to Be Solo

Our ancestors didn’t heal in isolation.
There were elders who listened, aunties who held stories, midwives who guided transitions, and watchers who made sure no one was left alone in the dark.

Somewhere along the way, modern culture taught us: “Handle it by yourself.” But ancestral wisdom still whispers: “Come sit by the fire.”

✨ Self-care isn’t just rest or boundaries.
It’s allowing yourself to be witnessed.
It’s receiving support without apology or guilt.
It’s remembering you were never meant to carry everything alone.

Tag someone who feels like safe community to you — the one who helps you exhale just by being present.

Self-care didn’t start as an aesthetic.
It didn’t begin with candles, baths, or something to optimize your life.

It began with staying alive.

Our ancestors rested because exhaustion could kill.
They prayed because spirit was protection.
They sang, gathered, touched the land, and leaned into each other because the body heals in connection.

Self-care wasn’t selfish.
It wasn’t extra.
It was medicine.

What colonized culture calls “laziness,” our lineage calls wisdom.
What capitalism calls “unproductive,” your nervous system calls necessary.

✨ Decolonizing truth:
You do not earn rest by suffering first.
You inherit it by existing.

Your body knows this.
That pull toward stillness isn’t weakness.
It’s memory.

Comment “ANCESTRAL” if this landed somewhere deep.

In reading Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy (p. 4): Dr. Francine Shapiro is teaching us that clients symptoms come from unprocessed memories.. not from the event itself.
If clients understand their story but still feel stuck, it doesn’t mean you’re doing EMDR wrong.
It means the memory isn’t finished yet.

As an EMDR Consultant-in-Training, I’m learning that EMDR works because it’s comprehensive—mind, body, memory, and meaning.

When all parts are included, the brain can finish learning.

✨ Reflection: Which part do you focus on most right now—mind or body?

12/24/2025

As an EMDR Consultant-in-Training, I’m learning that EMDR isn’t about techniques..it’s about a comprehensive model of healing.
We don’t just target thoughts.
We attend to memory, emotion, body sensations, and meaning..together.
That’s where real change happens.
✨ Reflection:
What part of the EMDR model are you still learning to trust?
