I was smart but headstrong. My mother must have been at her wits' end when I quit college to hitchhike across America, seeking God. But she loved me and trusted I would find my way. She was my anchor when I almost succumbed to my husband’s unraveling mind. Finally safe and a mother myself, I was asking her blessing to take her precious baby granddaughter far from her home in San Antonio to start a new life in Utah. How could I do that to her? This is what she said to me.

When I was in my early twenties, my husband, who was in the early stages of succumbing to schizophrenia, held me captive, r***d me, and attempted to murder me to prove our unborn baby was the spawn of Satan. All while we were hitchhiking across America, thousands of miles away from friends and family.

Not only did I live to tell the tale, I learned to trust myself, trust my support system, and set myself free.
