Did you know? Ultrasounds are essential in how we diagnose and treat patients with conditions affecting their arteries and veins! For example, a doppler ultrasound can help you identify blocked arteries and help determine your risk for stroke.

One of the most important predictors of quality in any Vascular Lab is the skill and experience of the technologist/sonographer that performs and supervises the examination. We are proud of PVA's laboratories, which are staffed or managed by experienced Registered Vascular Technologists- some with more than 10 and even 20 years of experience.

We are grateful to our vascular lab techs for their passion and dedication to our patients. A heartfelt thank you from your team at PVA for all that you do for us- and for our community. Happy Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month!

Did you know that paying close attention to your legs and feet can be life (or limb) saving for a diabetic?

Diabetes often leads to circulation problems in the lower extremities, which can result in non-healing wounds, Peripheral Artery Disease (P.A.D.), or even amputation.

The vascular experts at PVA share five warning signs in your feet that may signal poor blood flow or vascular disease. Read them at: https://pvasatx.com/what-your-feet-tell-about-your-health/

What is a vascular surgeon?

A vascular surgeon is not merely a subspecialist who occasionally performs procedures on the legs. Vascular surgeons are the only doctors in The United States specifically trained to provide a full range of treatment options associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

At PVA, our vascular surgeons are board-certified/board-eligible, and have received highly specialized training to treat a broad variety of conditions related to arteries and veins.

And while the technical abilities of a physician are important, the willingness to invest time into understanding the patient’s other medical conditions- such as cardiac status, renal function, diabetes, cholesterol, and their overall health- is critical. At PVA, we consider this due diligence our obligation in order to thoroughly diagnose and treat each patient's unique condition.

07/14/2023

If you or a loved one smoke, you can improve your circulation and blood flow by quitting. Did you know that smoking directly contributes to vascular disease?

Smoking harms the walls of your arteries and causes plaque buildup. As the arteries harden from plaque, it becomes difficult for your blood to flow, which results in significantly decreased circulation.

Smoking also increases your blood pressure, while lowering your levels of "good" cholesterol. Both of these factors can put you at risk for carotid artery disease, and in turn, increase your stroke risk, among others.

Ask your PVA provider about smoking cessation practices at your next visit!
