đź’™ New Year, New Awareness đź’™

As we step into January, it’s a powerful time to check in on how you’re really feeling after birth.
Not every postpartum mood change is the same, and knowing the difference can help you get the right support:

🔹 Baby Blues: Temporary mood swings, tearfulness, irritability; usually resolve within 2 weeks
🔹 Postpartum Depression (PPD): Persistent sadness, low energy, hopelessness, loss of interest; may last months without treatment
🔹 Postpartum Anxiety (PPA): Excessive worry, racing thoughts, panic; can interfere with daily life

✨ Early recognition leads to earlier support and recovery.

And remember, perinatal mental health conditions can also include OCD, Bipolar Mood Disorders, PTSD, and Psychosis.

đź’™ You are not alone, and help is available.

If you need support now:
đź”· Call or text the Postpartum Support International HelpLine at 800-944-4773 (no diagnosis needed)
đź”· Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262
đź”· In a crisis, call or text 988
đź”· Download the Connect by PSI app
đź”· Visit Postpartum.net for programs and resources

✨ A new year can be the beginning of feeling better.

We weren’t meant to raise kids alone. For thousands of years, parenting was a shared effort supported by extended family and community “alloparents” who helped care for children.

This wasn’t just tradition, it was essential for survival and well-being.

Today, many parents face the opposite: isolation in nuclear families, expected to do it all themselves. This gap between what parenting asks of us and the help we actually get is why so many parents feel overwhelmed.

Reclaiming the “village” means building real networks of help: offering rides, emotional support and practical advice.

Moving past the idea that parents have to do it all alone and embracing support from others isn’t just healthier – it’s the natural way humans raise children.

Please, please let moms labor down. They need that extra bit of "rest" (sometimes contractions spread out before the fetal ejection reflex kicks in) to do the hard work of delivering theri child.

Does your facility labor down?

This slight shift in positioning when the baby is +2 to help set the body up to make space for the baby to keep descending! There are so many things we can do as labor nurses to help our patients get set up for success, this being one of them.

Do we know where the baby is?
Do we know what position it’s in?
Have we thought through the P’s of labor?
What’s the vibe? How’s their psyche?
Are their basic needs met?

Positions are all the rage, we get it. But there’s so much more.

Do you understand how this position an you’re entire practice could help?

Doula, Birth Advocate, Postpartum Support

The word “doula” comes from Greek and means servant. I’m here to give physical, emotional, and informational support to all birthing families and be your advocate to help you make the right decisions about your own body and baby.
