Our Healing Story

In the Beginning:

Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN formally created Healing Touch as an energy medicine program. Janet was an energetically sensitive nurse, and her drive was to deepen and expand the connection between nurses and their patients. She saw the positive effect of touch while using various energy techniques and modalities. Her real love of patients and the nurse connection began emerging as she developed her "healing touch" methods.

Janet shared her methods by teaching education classes. Her research, with the application within her private practice, and her teaching of energy medicine, earned her the Holistic Nurse of the Year Award from the American Holistic Nurses Association in 1988.

In 1990, the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) sponsored Janet's program as a Healing Touch certificate program, and the Colorado Nurses Association provided continuing education hours for nurses. By 1993, certification of Healing Touch Practitioners began and was administered by the AHNA. That same year, Janet formed The Colorado Center for Healing Touch, Inc. dedicated to bringing Healing Touch to millions of people throughout the world.

Things really began to take flight; in 1997, the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation, Inc., was founded as a non-profit charitable organization. Janet's intent for Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation was (and is) to receive and distribute funds to assist, encourage and advance the philosophy, objectives and techniques of Healing Touch therapy. The Healing Touch Program (HTP) reached wellness facilities across the entire globe.

Within this time, Janet Mentgen revolutionized the medical model to include a clinical approach to energy based therapy. Her legacy lives on through the Certified Instructors and Certified Practitioners and thousands of students who are bringing a holistic approach to healing.

Janet passes away on September 15, 2005. Securing her legacy, she has passed ownership of the Healing Touch Program™ to her children, making this a family-owned operations since 1989.

Who is a Healer? Healers may come from all kinds of backgrounds - nurses, massage therapists, social workers, healthcare professionals, corporate, and family makers. We believe we all have the ability to harness that energy within ourselves to create a greater foundation of wellness within, and in our surroundings. We know that self-care and natural healing can shift the world and how we care for each other. Our motivation comes from our hearts and we know Healing Touch can change people’s lives.

Our mission is to establish Healing Touch in every home, school, and health care facility through heart-centered community, education and practice. Our vision is to inspire and empower humanity to achieve holistic health, healing and well-being.
