Sometimes patients drop 🧠 💣
Anyone who’s close to me knows how important ownership and accountability is to me. At the end of the day, I’m happy with whatever decision you make…as long as you’re willing to own the benefits and consequences of each 🤷🏽♂️
In my line of work, ownership over your health is more prevalent. Is there something you can do today? Yes? Then how come you’re not doing something if it’s bothering you? No? Then what can you control to make the best of the outcome? 🧐
Now of course, you can apply this to various areas of your life. Try it next time you’re in the middle of making a decision, it might help clear out the noise 😄
End of the day, I support whatever decision you make as long as you own it 🫶🏽
Much love

That glide though 👀
But seriously, how many of you have felt your back constantly tight or squeezing? Maybe you’re just coming back from vacation and the long travel has you feeling tense around the hips and low back, or maybe you’ve been much more active in your exercise and noticing your back is more tight than when you started. Either way, lets talk about it 📣
There are multiple muscles that run along the spine down the low back, despite constantly hearing about the QL (quadratus lumborum) there’s many more there; longissiumus thoracis, iliocostalis lumborum, multifidus and many more
When we constantly overuse these erector spinae, they can become overdeveloped and constantly feel tense. Now while there are MANY other reasons why the lower back can feel tight, today we are focusing on this one specifically 🙌🏽
Here, we are using a general gliding technique to increase blood flow to the area as well as elongate and create sustained pressure through the lumbar paraspinals as they respond well to it. This allows us to open a window of opportunity for increased range of motion so that we can start training the new movements and create long term results 🤩🔥

Pain behind the knee 🥲
If you’re noticing that during activity you’re feeling some discomfort behind the knee more towards the outside (lateral), then it’s worth taking a look around the calves (gastrocnemius) 🐄
The lateral head of the gastrocnemius runs up and across the knee joint and does assist with some knee flexion, which is a repetitive pattern in running 🏃🏽
The other muscle here, plantaris, is a very overlooked muscle. It takes a slightly different route while still crossing over the knee joint and also assisting in knee flexion as well as foot plantar flexion (pointing food down)…another repetitive pattern when running 🏃🏽
Here, we just tackled some soft tissue therapy to help mobilize the tissue so it can begin to function better and get this athlete back to running 🏃🏽

This could be us, but 🤔
You’re still using YouTube in hopes that you’ll magically create a plan that fixes your pain 🪄
Hey I get it, I used to do the same thing, but what frustrated me looking back was the amount of time I could have saved just seeing a professional who built me a specialized plan to get me back to my activity 🏃♂️
I know better now, but the question is..what’re you going to do? Are you going to keep throwing Hail Marys? Or are you going to get yourself the care you finally deserve? Personally, I hate back 🤷🏽♂️ but that’s me

Higher heel drop shoes, do you need them? 🤷🏽♂️
High heel drop refers to a shoe that has around 8mm or more of heel drop
These are going to be suitable for those who are prone to Achilles/heel pain, running longer mileage of 10 or more or if you’re a chronic heel striker 🦶🏽
If you’re a marathon runner; half or fulls, then you would probably agree that these larger heel drop shoes are ideal for your running style 😎

Volume up because shots fired 💥
Now we can get back to the activities we love 🫶🏽
This runner came in with some irritation around the ankle and also had been struggling with consistently having aches and pains in the lower back along the SI joint 🙁
We looked at her ankles and feet and found massive restriction in the mid foot and talus through dorsiflexion. 🦶🏽 This restriction caused a lack of energy to be dispersed appropriately when running which moved its way up the chain to cause mechanical issues in the pelvis during activity.
Rarely where you’re feeling the pain is there actually an issue. Get yourself a doc who looks outside the box 📦

Thoracic mobility anywhere, anytime 👏🏽
Here’s a few movements you can add into your daily routine to feel less stiff in that upper back throughout the day
The T-spine (thoracic) is made up of 12 vertebrae and is the only section of our spine that has ribs attached to it which creates a lot more stability. While this is great, it’s still important to create mobility through this region just like others in order to keep our bodies feeling good 😌
A mobile T-spine plays a huge role in our shoulder health as well. One of the 4 joints that make up the shoulder complex is the scapulothoracic joint, this is where your shoulder blade (scapula) resides on your back and glides across your ribs. When their is restriction through your t-spine and ribs, you may begin to notice dysfunction into the shoulders which can eventually cause pain and discomfort 🤕
Keep that mobility in the T-spine and let me know what you think 💭

Let’s strengthen that rotator cuff 💪🏽
Primarily the posterior side, which responsible for external rotation. Did you know that the rotator cuff is made up of four individual muscles the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis 😲
With this exercise, we are targeting the infraspinatus and teres minor group which is responsible for external rotation of the shoulder 💪🏽
Why should you train this group? See below 👇🏽
Ina world where sitting is the norm, we spend excessive amounts of time with our shoulders rounding forward which leaves our external rotators in a lengthened position while our subscapularis, whose primary role is internal rotation of the shoulder becomes chronically over engaged 🙀
This can lead to biomechanical issues within the shoulders leading to injury as well as muscular imbalance between the opposing forces of the rotator cuff. This move is a great way to combat the chronic internal rotation we experience daily ☀️
Best part is you can do it anywhere as long as you have a band. Give it a try and let me know what you think 💭
