Why doesn’t the pain ever stay away? 🫠

It’s completely understandable to ask this, after all these are all the things that feel good and you’re told should help fix your pain right? 🤕

But 9/10 people I get on the phone with have already tried all of these solutions and they all say the same thing… “it lasted for about 5 days and that was it, I didn’t want to keep going back forever”😪

I don’t blame you, neither would I. The problem isn’t that these solutions don’t work, it’s that they’re tools that are misunderstood and not being used to their full potential.

If you want real lasting relief, you need a plan, you need guidance and you need someone who understands the demands of the activities you want to participate in that will help you get there.

A fragmented approach will rarely yield superb results 💯

The hardest part of the battle in any rehab situation 🧐

It might seem ridiculous but it’s true, the way you see your injury and your ability to recover ACTUALLY plays a role in how fast and how well you recover, check the data 📊

Let me tell you a story about a patient I had: she came in with knee pain that was preventing her from squatting comfortably. By our 5th visit I saw quite a bit of progress based off objective measures we took in the beginning but to her all she could think about was the present discomfort that was still there and how she wanted to get back to squatting 🤕

She became so concerned that she wanted to get additional imaging even though it wasn’t recommended; but I went ahead and did it. Why?

Because sometimes we need visual proof that nothing is inherently wrong to calm down about a situation even if we are getting better by all measurements. That anxiety and focus on the injury pulls attention away from how far you have already progressed and leaves you in a spot where we can no longer make progress, this leaves us with pain that stalls and becomes stubborn, chronic and much more difficult to treat😩

Guess what happened after we showed her the image with zero findings on it? 🩻
Her pain went from a 7/10 to a 3/10 and we squat smaller weight that day 🏋🏽‍♂️🏋🏾‍♀️

Don’t discount how big of a role your mindset plays, it’s about half the battle and any rehab provider worth your time will make sure that’s a staple in your program back to your goals 🧠

Shoulder pain is not the 🐝 🦵🏽

Sometimes it’s complicated, other times it’s not. But often what I see in clinic is either

- too much too fast 🙅🏽‍♂️
- old forgotten injuries finally making their return 🙅🏽‍♂️
- unbalanced programming that leads to overuse 🙅🏽‍♂️

Of course there’s many other reasons shoulders can hurt, but here’s the ones I see the most. The good news about all this is it’s preventable and it’s possible to get rid of it.🤩
