For 45 years I have been on the side of medicine caring for others. I now find myself being on the cared for side and with that, looking for another giving individual that would be willing to care about and help sustain my life.
Due to the progression of kidney disease, I am now faced with the treatment options of dialysis or transplant. Dialysis is a treatment that can keep me alive but is extremely difficult on the body and organs with the average life expediency of 5 years. My doctors have encouraged me to seek out a transplant as my overall health is good. A transplant would give me the ability to live a more healthier and longer life.
Unfortunately, the wait time for a deceased kidney donor is greater than 10 years here in Southern California or greater depending on blood type (mine). A living donor would be another option that would greatly improve my chances of getting a transplant and sustaining my life. A living kidney lasts longer and has better function.
I know it's a big ask to ask another person if they would be willing to share a body part. If you would consider this I can’t tell you how grateful I would be.

Information regarding kidney donation:
People only need one kidney to live a healthy, long life.
Most donor surgery is done laparoscopically (small incisions)
Recuperation period is usually fairly quick, approximately 2 weeks.
My insurance covers the cost of evaluation and surgery.
If living donor is not something you would consider, would you please consider being an organ donor, after death by signing your Driver's License …promise it wont hurt.
