Home Sweet Home…
Spring is in full bloom and here in San Diego, the Sun is beginning to shine in the most perfect San Diego way.
I have been making a point to get outdoors more.
Taking in walks, coffee shop catch up sessions, spending time by the ocean and exploring new spots has been a great way to kick off springtime.
I am looking forward to some hikes and new adventures this spring and summer, but most of all, soaking up the sunshine! ☀️🌴
🏆 My wins for the week🏆
Going to a cat cafe with a good friend. Yes, a cat cafe! It was so fun to sit and play with the kitties and have some time to catch up with a friend.
Playing tourist in my own city with my husband. Recently we went to brunch in Coronado by the water, checked out a meditation garden and strolled along the boardwalk at the beach. Sometimes it is nice to explore your own hometown and find the pearls right in your own back yard.
Getting cold called by a new attorney client. My legal nurse consultant (LNC) business has taught me the true power of networking. This new client received my name and information from an attorney I have worked with and cold called me to see if I could be an expert on a case. Having credibility, operating with integrity and demonstrating my knowledge and experience has paved the way for building a successful consulting business!

🚨 Black women are THREE TIMES more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women 🚨
These statistics are shocking yet heartbreakingly true.
Black women are disproportionately harmed by maternal morbidity and mortality.
Studies show that when Black women suffer from severe injuries or pregnancy complications or simply ask for assistance, they are often dismissed or ignored in the health care settings that are supposed to care for them.
22% of Black women receive lower quality of care than white women and are subject to discrimination when seeking care.
Multiple factors contribute to the healthcare disparities Black people experience, such as variation in quality healthcare, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism, and implicit bias.
80% of pregnancy related deaths are preventable, yet Black women are dying at alarming rates while pregnant or giving birth.
April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week.
Black Maternal Health Week is a week of awareness and activism aimed at raising awareness of the healthcare disparities Black women in particular face while having children.

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
Gratitude edition: Have you ever stopped to just say Thank you?
As many have probably heard by now, earlier this week San Diego experienced at least a 5.2 magnitude earthquake.
With the epicenter also here in San Diego, it was quite the violent shake for many.
Although I am a native San Diegan, these unexpected jolts are always startling for me.
Immediately after the earthquake, I found myself checking in on loved ones and then simply saying THANK YOU.
Yet another reminder of how quickly things can change and how suddenly things can happen.
I am thankful for so much and above all the health and safety of my loved ones and myself.
🏆 My wins for the week🏆
Successful phone call with a repeat attorney client. As an expert, I am to provide clear opinions which highlight the facts of the case and detail the applicable standards of care.
My second win for the week is enjoying some of my favorite self-care activities: mani/pedi, massage, acupuncture, coffee dates with besties and brunch with my husband. Grateful to partake in activities that fill my cup and to spend time with those I love the most.

Fly high, dream big.
Have you ever had dreams that scare you?
Ever felt not capable of achieving a goal?
Be scared but do it anyway.
I have found that I have never felt 100% ready to take the leap towards my dreams, but I stepped out on faith.
Your dreams and goals don’t have to make sense to anyone but you. It’s your life and you are the author of your story.
Believe me, it is not always easy to do something you have never done before, but it is always worth it.
How will you fly high this week?
🏆 My wins for the week🏆
Going to the orthopedist for my knee and going for a routine dentist appointment. It is important to take care of yourself and see healthcare providers regularly, not only when something is wrong. Taking care of yourself is the ultimate form of
Self-care.
My second win for the week is successfully leading an online educational group on Non-Small Cell lung cancer. It was rewarding to have an engaged audience and to receive awesome feedback on how I led the group activity.

“Stay positive. Rainbows often appear when you least expect them and need them the most.” - Jamie Worthington
On my way into work last week, I saw the most vibrant rainbow!
It was beautiful and appeared so fast.
I was grateful to be able to pull over and take in the beauty.
I seem to see rainbows at times when I need them the most and can appreciate them.
To me, rainbows are a reminder of hope, faith, renewal and beauty, especially after times of difficulty or challenge.
Rainbows are a reminder to keep going and don’t give up! 🌈

Celebrating my husband’s birthday. We LOVE birthdays in our family. We find it important to celebrate another year and our countless blessings. My husband is an incredible man and I love doing all the things he enjoys. Nothing like seeing a smile on the face of the ones you love.

What is Lymphoma?
Lymphoma is a type of cancer that involves the lymphatic system, which is your body’s primary defense against infections and viruses.
The lymphatic system includes the lymph nodes, which are found all throughout the body.
Organs and body parts that are involved in the lymphatic system include the spleen, thymus, tonsils and bone marrow.
Symptoms of lymphoma may include:
♦️ “B symptoms” of fever, night sweats and weight loss
♦️ fatigue
♦️ enlarged lymph nodes
♦️ persistent pain
♦️ and more….
Diagnosis may include:
♦️ history and physical exam
♦️ labwork
♦️ diagnostic imaging (e.g. CT scans or PET/CT scan)
♦️ biopsy
♦️ and more….
There are many treatments available for lymphoma including:
♦️ radiation
♦️ chemotherapy
♦️ immunotherapy
♦️ targeted therapy
♦️ bone marrow transplant
♦️ and more…
Thorough evaluation of symptoms and abnormal physical exam findings are what often lead to lymphoma and other cancer diagnoses.

I love finding new small businesses to support both locally and in other parts of the country.
One of my favorite small businesses for quite some time here in San Diego is Maya’s Cookies.
Maya’s Cookies is a Woman-Owned, Black-Owned Vegan cookie company with AMAZING cookies.
These cookies are absolutely delicious and have been a hit when I have brought them for work events or to hang out with girlfriends. The best part is you can also buy them online!

Women’s History Month: The Most Decorated Beach Volleyball Olympian of All-Time: Kerri Walsh Jennings
Kerri Walsh Jennings grew up in California and played volleyball at Stanford.
She was inducted into both the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame (2011) and the Pac-12 Hall of Fame (2018).
Kerri Walsh Jennings is a 5x Olympian, competing in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic games and a 4x Olympic medalist.
She won 3 gold medals in beach volleyball with her teammate, Misty May- Treanor (2004, 2008, 2012).
Kerri Walsh Jennings became the most decorated beach volleyball Olympian of all time after winning a Bronze medal in the 2016 Olympic games.
Amazingly, she competed while pregnant in both the 2008 and 2012 games.
I was completely awestruck and excited to meet her in person while I lived in NYC. She was incredibly kind and humble.

What is Thromboocytopenia?
Thrombocytopenia is a term that refers to a low platelet count.
Platelets are a type of blood cell that helps your blood form clots.
When platelet counts are low or do not function properly, this results in an increased risk of bleeding.
Symptoms of thrombocytopenia may include:
🩸 easy or excessive bruising
🩸 superficial bleeding in pinpoint fashion on skin (called petechiae)
🩸 prolonged bleeding
🩸 blood in urine or stool
🩸 frequent spontaneous bleeding from nose or gums
🩸 heavy menstrual flow
🩸 fatigue
🩸 and more…
Conditions or treatments that may cause low platelet counts may include:
🩸 leukemia or other cancers
🩸 some viral infections
🩸 chemotherapy or radiation
🩸 certain autoimmune conditions
🩸 certain medications
🩸 and more…
Low platelet counts can result in hemorrhage which if significant, can result in death.
As an on oncology nurse practitioner, I monitor blood counts often as a safety measure for patients with a cancer diagnosis and/or those undergoing cancer directed therapies.
