You know what's wild? My mom pulled the ultimate Irish goodbye in September 2023, just quietly slipped away in her bed without leaving us so much as a medical Post-it note explaining why. The docs did their whole CSI thing with the autopsy and toxicology, but came up empty-handed. And this is a woman who treated her liver like it owed her money for 60 years! You'd think they'd find “something”, right?

Now my brain's doing mental gymnastics that would impress Simone Biles. One minute I'm WebMD-ing myself into a panic like "Oh god, is this genetic? Am I going to mysteriously vanish into the ether too?" The next minute I'm crafting conspiracy theories about the speed-run cremation that would make Netflix want to make a documentary. (Spoiler alert: It was probably just regular funeral home scheduling, but try telling that to my 3 AM thoughts.)

Dead serious though (pun intended, Mom would've laughed) - has anyone else been through this "cause of death: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" situation? This lack of closure is like having a TV show cancelled on a cliffhanger except, you know, way more existentially disturbing.

How do you cope when the final chapter of someone's story is just a bunch of blank pages? Currently accepting advice, virtual hugs, and recommendations for therapists who appreciate dark humor JK.

P.S. Mom, if you're out there somewhere, you're still driving me crazy with unanswered questions - just like when you never told me where you hid the Christmas presents.
