Hey Bunny Family I have THE MOST EXCELLENT NEWS!
It has been a while since I looked at the RHDV2 maps.
Listen carefully now...it used to be that the entire state of Florida a while back was "highlighted" as infected with RHDV2. This sent all of us into a panic of course and we all vaccinated yearly. What upset me was that I KNEW that there was a separate Grid (NOT the map) that actually spoke of the date and the county or counties involved etc. and after i looked at it about 3x it just disappeared so I never could get any reliable straight forward info to help myself or anybody else and I continued to vaccinate out of fear. Guess what? The USDA made a NEW interactive Map with DETAILS in the Layers at the bottom of the page!

IMPORTANT to NOTE:
At the top of these layers it has boxes to include EVERYTHING from 2021-2025 March...Make sure that is UN-clicked so that you can take your time watching the map highlight and un-highlight as you click through the Domestic and also the Wild Rabbit cases.
Also important to notes is that if you open the "OTHER Layers" and click on "Rabbit NASS 2022" Florida lights up in colors as being affected that year badly. I looked up NASS, they come up in Google as a National Association for Satin Rabbit Breeding and they have shows. But that is the only year listed as having an issue.

I am including the link to play with but just in case it doesn't pull up correctly...Here is a screen shot of Florida being clear other than that 2023 Domestic Case and another and another also of the East Coast also being Clear from 2023-March of 2025 (please see that it states that Chrome works best with this map. I had to pull it up 4x to get the darn Layers on the bottom to pull up. Without the Layers...none of this works. That is the whole point is know WHEN and WHERE and WHO got the disease! so that you can make an actual informed decision as to what you want to do for your babies.

This post is not to upset anyone about decisions or personal choices. There is ZERO judgment and I do not invite arguments! We are friends and family...lets keep it that way. This is a tool to help you decide moving forward what YOU want to do which I highly respect, as we are all individuals with free will. We can also keep checking this map as we choose to travel which is also super important to have. I will make a post about how to kill the virus as I have also researched that as well. Love to you all and your fuz buns.

Molting is serious business. Some bunnies dont show it much. You may only see some horizontal lines across the fur we call racing stripes, or you may see a couple of poops strung together. I will tell you from experience its enough to send your bunny to the ER. When i see the slightest signs of molting i massage the belly feeling for distention with rigidity, enlargement. I watch behavior for hiding in hidee houses or cat tunnels, lethargy and any time a treat is refused I know GI Stasis (life threatening) has begun.

I am combing daily some bunnies and the next day my other bunnies. I have learned tricks for getting hair off around tail area, down the sides and how to pull hair out of areas where normal combing just doesnt work. Feel free to ask questions. I have tried a couple combs and the Small Pet Select is the only one that goes deep into the hair n grabs all that loose stuff.

☀️ Why do rabbits die in hot hutches? Because they’re extremely sensitive to heat. Rabbits can’t sweat or pant like dogs — their bodies simply can’t cool down fast enough. When trapped in outdoor hutches during summer, especially in direct sunlight, the temperature can spike dangerously high, leading to heatstroke and death in a matter of minutes. 😔

Even if the air feels warm to you, it can be lethal to them. Wooden hutches act like ovens, holding in heat and blocking airflow. Rabbits often suffer silently — by the time you notice symptoms, it may be too late.

🏡 Keep your bunnies indoors, in a cool, shaded, well-ventilated space. Use fans, frozen water bottles, and tiled flooring to help them stay comfortable. Their lives depend on it.

Get your bunny teeth checked...its so important. These can be ground down in a few minutes. These spikes are SO painful and need to be delt with.

We have been taking our bunnies on neighborhood walks and they are truly loving the sunshine and fresh air. I only recommend doing this in bunny safe areas. We have a lot of very friendly respectful dog owners here who have thier animals under control. We dont have cars sp*eding through our streets. Its very calm and peaceful here so I do feel safe doing this. I do NOT ever recommend harness walking ever! This is a front pouch with a perfect fit being supported also by my hand at all times.

I have no idea how many hours this castle took me to coat in beeswax but I am done! I am proud of myself for researching and finding out what the safest option was to protect my new bunny castles from p*e. I will create a How To video soon. The learning curve is enormous but I figured it out! Its nothing like painting at ALL and u cant use a brush. This is Simba my spicy Meatball.

We bought a small TV for bunnies to watch the Gardening show and Martha Stewart. They actually watch it! I think it cuts down on lonliness...well along with our frequent visits. That ugly ol fireplace is getting a magnetic cover soon..

Its amazing how much hair this comb removes during a molt. Yesterday I pulled a HUGE pile off of my bunny Star far larger than this in just a few minutes. We had a GI Stasis 7 hour scare yesterday with Leo so all the bunnies are bunny combed daily now until this molt passes. No accidnetal eating of loose hair!

An Accidental Rescue Was Born

An Accidental Bunny Rescue instantly was created when Doug and Eve were driving home from purchasing the last bit of groceries needed to ride out the approaching hurricane. In their neighborhood they saw a truck bed full of bunnies all crammed together in 98 degree heat in the sun. They backed up their vehicle and jumped out to see what all the neighbors were standing around for and what was happening. A young lady and her friend knew about a property where about 20 or more bunnies were abandoned several weeks before this. Since the hurricane was coming they decided to try to capture as many as they could only to find out afterwards that all of the vets were closed in preparation for the hurricane and all the shelters were full. The young lady was in quite a panic and praying for help to come along because she had dogs and a young toddler inside to care for who she thought would hurt the bunnies, and also she knew nothing about these exotic animals. Doug and Eve took about 10 seconds to volunteer to take them in, having experience with bunnies of their own. With windows all boarded up, generator and air conditioning back ups ready to go, they put the bunnies in separate large plastic bins to keep them safe and calm until the storm passed. Immediately they carefully assessed each bunny and find out that there was an ear mite problem with 5 bunnies, one was very severe with infection, one had a face that was bitten badly with a terrible hole and abscess on his cheek, one badly broken tibia, a few that wouldn’t eat, infected bites in ears and sores on feet. The next day these babies went to the Exotic Vet and many of them started a regimen of treatments, special feedings, and medicine along with lots of TLC to help with whatever PTS they may had from trying to survive without food n water while avoiding predators. The next day there was a miscarriage, four days later one had three babies, two more days later one had 7 babies! There were many complications, but Doug and Eve worked tirelessly to make sure there were no deaths! They have funded all supplies, hired help and veterinary bills with their own money, and put aside their won personal projects and goals to help these bunnies. They are hoping to find fantastic, loving homes for these bun buns immediately as they can no longer afford to care for all of them. Perhaps at another time if they can find funding, they can start rescuing again. It has brought a great amount of meaning and happiness into their lives. They hope to also inspire others to do the same and spread the word about how amazing bunnies are.
