🌟 What an inspiring day at Google! 🌟

We hosted a student hackathon where 40 middle school students from Paramount USD presented their own games, music, and interactive projects — all built using code! 🎮🎵💻

Just 3 months ago, these students had never coded before. Many had never been to a tech company or seen a future in STEAM.

Thanks to our Future Makers program, Google’s incredible team, and the support of Think Together, these students had the chance to:
✨ Present their creations on stage
✨ Explore real careers in tech
✨ Witness Gemini and Veo 3 in action — Google’s newest AI tools for creators

This is what happens when creativity, technology, and opportunity come together.
🚀 This is the future of learning.

🌟 At Rising Stars, we embed three core values into every program we design — from after-school enrichment to school-day workshops and youth leadership events:

1. Learning is most powerful when it’s joyful.
Whether it’s through coding their first app, expressing themselves through dance, or playing sports in a team — every moment of joy, connection, and agency matters.

2. Let students build, not just memorize.
We believe in a future where students don’t just memorize — they build, create, move, and lead.

3. Make kids feel seen and know they matter.
One of the most important roles of educators today is ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and empowered. Because when students know they matter, they can change the world. 🌍

These principles guide everything we do — and they’re why we show up every day.

🌠Let’s build the future of education together.

The revolutionary new science 💡 of exercise and the brain 🧠 explains how physical activity and movement 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ affect the learning process and can help with SIGNIFICANTLY improving 📈 learning at schools 🏫

It has been widely known that sports and movement programs contribute to lower risk of disease, improved physical strength, better physical and emotional health, and other qualities that contribute to a better life.

New science of exercise and the brain explains how physical activity and movement affects not only physical health, but also mental health and improves the learning process inlcuding academic performance.

The book called Spark by the bestselling author and renowned psychiatrist John J. Ratey, MD talks about the groundbreaking and fascinating investigation into the transformative effects of exercise on the brain filled with amazing case studies.

Spark by John Ratey delves into the science behind exercise and brain health. Ratey argues that exercise is not only good for the body, but it’s also good for the brain. Your brain is the dominant control center of your body, and its health directly affects, among other things, your mood, your attention, and your ability to learn. Ratey argues that your overall physical well-being is so intimately linked to brain function that maintaining it should be a top priority, and he hopes to convince us to make exercise a routine part of our lives.

On further research, Ratey found that exercise helps us learn in primarily two ways:
- Exercise strengthens neurons
- Exercise stimulates the growth of new neurons

Some of the key ideas 💡 from the book:
1. Exercising is not only good for our bodies but also is good for our brains.

2. Exercise and movement helps improve cognitive performance, memory and learning ability which ultimately helps students at schools receive, process and memorize new information and stay focused.

3. When attention deficit disorder makes it hard to focus, physical exercise can lend a hand to the students struggling with ADHD.

4. Exercise regulates our stress response. Stress and depression isn’t just in our mind, it’s in our body, too. Exercise can help alleviate a depression and help coping with stress that enormous amount of students are experiencing while going through the school.

Why School Wellness is Crucial for Our Future

In today’s fast-paced world, the well-being of students is more important than ever. School wellness isn't just about physical health; it encompasses mental, emotional, and social health too. Here are a few key reasons why prioritizing wellness in schools is essential:

👉 Enhanced Academic Performance: Healthy students are better learners. Studies show that children who engage in regular physical activity and have access to nutritious food perform better academically. Wellness programs that include physical education, healthy meals, and mental health resources can significantly boost students' cognitive function and concentration.

👉 Mental Health Support: The pressures of modern life can take a toll on young minds. Schools that provide mental health resources, such as counseling and stress management programs, help students navigate challenges, reduce anxiety, and build resilience. Early intervention is key to preventing more serious mental health issues later in life.

👉 Positive School Environment: A focus on wellness creates a positive school culture where students feel safe, supported, and engaged. This sense of community enhances social connections and fosters a more inclusive environment where every student can thrive hence less student behavior issues.

👉 Lifelong Healthy Habits: Schools play a pivotal role in shaping the habits of young people. By integrating wellness into the curriculum, schools teach students the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which can lead to lifelong benefits. This includes understanding nutrition, the value of physical activity, and the importance of mental well-being.

👉 Reduced Absenteeism: Healthy students are less likely to miss school due to illness. Wellness initiatives that promote physical and mental health can reduce absenteeism, ensuring that students are present and ready to learn and are more engaged.

Investing in school wellness is investing in our future. When we prioritize the health and well-being of students, we lay the foundation for a more prosperous, empathetic, and resilient society. Let’s work together to ensure that wellness is at the heart of our educational systems.
