The average weight gain in the U.S. during the 8-week holiday period is slightly under a pound, although those already carrying excess weight have been shown to gain even more weight during the holiday season. Are you concerned about overeating at all of those holiday parties and events? Don't be, instead, keep these tips in mind:

Know that when you are eating, whether it is a buffet style meal or several dishes being served, you still need to nourish your body.

When you are eating, choose a balanced meal. This allows you to not only enjoy the options available, but also do so knowing you are making healthy choices.

Before going for another round of food; allow yourself to digest for at least 10 minutes.

When you are socializing with others, do so away from the food. This allows you to enjoy the conversations without the extra snacking.
