A death doula doesn’t replace medical care. They support the human side of dying.

They:
🪑 Sit with someone who doesn’t want to be alone
💬 Help talk through fears or unfinished thoughts
👐Support families in the moment
🕯️Create a calmer, more grounded environment

It’s not about doing more. It’s about being there: consistently, quietly, and with intention.

What would YOU want?

Imagine your closest loved ones having to guess what medical care you’d want in a time of crisis. 💔

Advance care planning changes that. It:
✨gives clarity in uncertain moments
🪞reflects what matters most to you
🫶eases pressure in tough times

With the right support, these conversations become more manageable and more meaningful.

Navigating life with a serious illness presents a multifaceted challenge for both patients and their families. It is essential that support extends beyond moments of crisis. This is precisely the vision that our founder and CEO, Dr. Bob Uslander, is dedicated to changing.

In a recent feature by Hospice News, Dr. Uslander discussed the future of palliative care and what it will take to catch people before they fall through the cracks:
❤️ Palliative care reduces suffering AND reduces costs for patients and families
❤️ Truly interdisciplinary care means addressing pain, emotional, psychosocial, AND spiritual needs together
❤️ Innovation in care models is how we reach people before they're in crisis
❤️ Community-based palliative care is growing and it's changing lives

As Dr. Uslander shared, "Palliative care is really valuable. It really reduces suffering and it reduces the costs to the system, the patients and families."

"The Art of Dying Well is about living as well as possible for as long as possible and adapting successfully to change." — Katy Butler

We are so excited to share that the Empowered Endings Foundation Book Club is here.
Our very first read is The Art of Dying Well: A Practical Guide to a Good End of Life, a book that meets us where we are and gently asks: What does it mean to die well? And how does that question help us live well?

Let’s come together in a space where we can pause, think, and connect with others who feel that discussing death can help us live more fully.

📖 Monthly virtual gatherings on Zoom
📖 Thoughtful facilitation and meaningful conversation
📖 A compassionate, judgment-free space for all experiences
📖 No pressure — whether you've read the whole book or just part of it, you belong here

Whether you're reading for yourself, for someone you love, or as part of your professional work - this is your invitation.

The Value of Mediation for Families Facing End-of-Life Disputes with Molly Darsow

Family conflicts around end-of-life care don't wait for convenient moments. They happen when emotions are raw, stakes are high, and everyone is already struggling.

But there's a better way through!

Tomorrow, Molly Darsow with Still Waters Mediation, LLC joins us to explore how mediation creates a neutral space where families can navigate disputes with dignity, transforming adversarial situations into opportunities for healing and mutual understanding.

You'll learn:
✨ Practical de-escalation strategies you can use immediately
✨ How mediation honors everyone's needs while moving toward solutions
✨ Ways to improve communication during high-emotion moments
✨ Pathways toward family unity when it matters most

Whether you're a professional supporting families or navigating your own family dynamics, this session offers tools for creating peace instead of prolonging conflict.

Six months from now, what will you remember? 🤔

Not the medications you juggled or the insurance forms you decoded. Not the confusion or the late-night searches for answers.

You'll remember the conversations that brought you closer. The moments when someone finally listened, and you felt less alone. The clarity that came when you stopped trying to navigate everything by yourself.

The families who feel most at peace aren't the ones who had easy circumstances. They're the ones who started the conversation early. Who asked for help before the crisis hit? Who found a team that treated them like humans, not just cases to manage.

That conversation can start today. 📲

Our Connection & Clarity Calls are gentle, pressure-free spaces where you can ask the questions that keep you up at night and explore options that fit your values.

Book your complimentary call.

You don't need the perfect thing to say.

You don't need to be strong every single moment.

What your loved one needs most is you. Present. Real. Right there beside them.

💠 Light the candle they always loved.
💠 Play the music that makes them smile.
💠 Wrap them in the blanket that holds a thousand memories.
💠 Hold their hand and let the silence say what words cannot.

These aren't grand gestures. They're the small rituals that create sacred space when time feels both infinite and fleeting.

At the end of life, it's not the perfect words that bring comfort. It's the love that shows up, steady and true, in the quietest moments.

📖 Read our guide to supporting a dying loved one across cultures, filled with gentle practices and rituals that honor every goodbye.

Serious health conditions involve complex decisions. It can be challenging to make decisions that best honor your values and your dignity. Allow us to help you know what’s possible and transform your experience from one of fear and struggle to one of peace and empowerment. As your partner and advocate, we walk beside you on this journey. Just call us.

Many of our patients and families are amazed at the transformation that takes place when they experience the kind of care that cannot be found in traditional healthcare models. The kind of care that empowers you to live life on your own terms for the rest of your days – free of fear, pain, and anxiety.

The traditional healthcare system too often takes an “all or nothing” approach. You likely have more options than you know of. Because we work outside the insurance model there are no external restrictions or limitations on our ability to serve you and your family. If you’re considering palliative or hospice care, learn more about your options, here.
