THE TEACHING ABOUT ABRAHAM, THE INTERCESSOR WHO STOOD IN THE GAP
Before fire ever fell on S***m, before judgment ever touched the ground, God did something shocking, He invited a human being into the decision.
Not a king.
Not a priest.
Not a prophet with a title.
Just Abraham, a man who walked with God so closely that Heaven said:
“Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?” (Genesis 18:17)
This is the first revelation:
Intimacy with God gives you access to information others never hear.
Abraham wasn’t perfect, but he was faithful. He believed in God. He obeyed God. He trusted God. And because of that, God trusted him with divine secrets.
GOD REVEALS THE JUDGMENT
The Lord tells Abraham that the outcry against S***m and Gomorrah is great.
The sin is deep.
The corruption is generational.
The suffering is loud.
And Abraham does something bold, something only a person who knows God’s heart would ever do.
He steps forward and says
“Wilt Thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Genesis 18:23)
This is the second revelation
Intercessors don’t run from judgment, they stand between judgment and the people.
Abraham didn’t say, “They deserve it.”
He didn’t say, “That’s not my business.”
He didn’t say, “Well, that’s S***m, not my house.”
He stepped into the gap.
He spoke to God about A NEGOTIATION: A MAN SPEAKING TO GOD WITH HOLY BOLDNESS
Abraham begins to negotiate… respectfully, humbly, but boldly.
50 righteous
45 righteous
40 righteous
30 righteous
20 righteous
10 righteous
Each time, God answers:
“I will not destroy it for their sake.”
This is the third revelation
God listens to the THE ONES WHO LIVE IN HIM AND HE IN THEM, the voice of the righteous.
Heaven bends when a righteous person speaks.
Judgment pauses when an intercessor stands up.
Mercy increases when someone dares to ask for it.
Abraham wasn’t bargaining with a reluctant God.
He was discovering the depths of God’s mercy.
THE QUESTION: “IF THERE ARE TEN GOOD MEN…”
Abraham’s final question:
“Peradventure ten shall be found there?”
And He said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.” (Genesis 18:32)
This is the fourth revelation
God was willing to spare an entire city for the sake of ten righteous people.
Ten.
Not a hundred.
Not a thousand.
Just ten.
That tells you something about the heart of God:
God is not eager to destroy.
God searches for righteousness before He releases judgment.
God values the presence of the righteous more than the size of the wicked.
If there had been ten good men, ten people who still honored God, the whole city would have been spared.
THE Revelation and the DEEP TRUTH: WHY TEN MATTERED
Why ten?
Because ten represents a remnant.
A seed.
A foundation.
A chance for restoration.
God will preserve a place if there is still a seed of righteousness left to rebuild it.
This is the fifth revelation
God always looks for a remnant before He releases judgment.
If He can find a remnant, He will plant again.
If He can find a remnant, He will restore.
If He can find a remnant, He will redeem.
S***m didn’t fall because God was angry.
S***m fell because there was no remnant left.
THE APPLICATION AND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR US TODAY
This biblical history teaches us
Intercession still matters.
God still listens when His people pray.
Righteousness still protects.
Your walk with God covers more than just you, it covers your family, your neighborhood, your community.
God still searches for the remnant.
He is not looking for perfection.
He is looking for faithfulness.
Judgment is never God’s first choice.
Mercy is always His starting point.
And finally
One righteous person can shift the destiny of an entire region, imagine what ten could do.
Listen,
This is why I am reaching out to encourage building a close and personal relationship with God and talking about my walk, my obedience, my voice matters.
You are part of the remnant in this generation.
You are one of the ones standing in the gap.
And Heaven still responds when a righteous woman speaks. Can I get an Amen in the comments? Amen, Amen and Amen.
