Meet the 2025 Frank Galassi and Scott Hamilton Scholarship recipient: Scott Self!✨

Scott grew up in a deeply religious household where being gay was seen as a sin. After a painful experience with conversion therapy, he was inspired to help others navigating the intersection of faith and identity. Today, Scott leads LGBTQ+ support groups, promotes inclusive public health campaigns, and plans to work with The Christian Closet as a licensed therapist.

Our runner up is Austin Gage, a q***r, biracial MFT Trainee working at The LGBTQ Center Orange County. Austin serves LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities with a strength-based, liberation-focused approach to therapy.

This special scholarship honors LGBTQ+ advocate Frank Galassi and his partner of 30 years, Scott Hamilton. It's just one of several scholarship options we offer to support future MFTs.

Good news: Applications for our 2026 scholarships are now open! You can only apply for one, so take your time exploring the options and learn more about this year’s inspiring winners here: https://loom.ly/xd8XwdQ.

Therapists, take note: The LGBTQ+ support option on the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline ended July 17 due to a federal policy change.

Luckily, California is stepping up to fill the gap.

Through a new partnership with The Trevor Project, 988 counselors in California will receive extra training to better support LGBTQ youth in crisis.

If a client is in crisis, let them know that they can still call, chat, or text 988 and be immediately connected to skilled counselors at all times.

Specialized services for LGBTQ youth are also available via The Trevor Project hotline at 1‑866‑488‑7386 or TheTrevorProject.org/GetHelp

Please help spread the word to clients and families who may be affected. 🌈

We’re glad to see the DMHC taking action to protect California consumers. Strong oversight like this helps uphold Californians’ rights to timely care, and ensures health plans are held accountable when they fall short.

The Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) fined Blue Cross of California Partnership Plan, Inc. $500,000 for failing to correct deficiencies, including mishandling member complaints.
