✨My first birth of 2024✨
And what a special one it was! This was my first time attending a home birth and doing birth photography and I loved every second of it!
This mama, who I formed such a deep connection and friendship with, was SO strong and powerful. She listened to her body and worked with her baby to bring all 11 pounds of him into this world. I feel so blessed to be able to witness and document this beautiful birth for her.

New year, new hair…. same doula!
It’s been a minute since I’ve posted so I figured I would reintroduce myself with my new look.

I’m Courtney Rae, a birth doula serving the San Diego and North County areas.
☀︎ I officially started my doula business this time last year.
☀︎ I only take one client a month.
☀︎ I attended 6 births last year.
☀︎ I’m booked through June this year.
☀︎ I am dipping my toe into birth photography for my clients.

Some goals I’m setting for myself this year…
☼ Complete my DONA certification.
☼ Start the process to become Tricare approved.
☼ Be more active on this instagram page.

This is my personal experience with pregnancy loss.

Today last year we found out we had lost the pregnancy of our third son. I’ve been working on this for the past week. It’s not perfect as I’m sure there’s plenty of grammatical errors and lots of details that have been left out, but it’s real and raw. I have recently found writing out my story to be a great tool for processing.

Timing is such an interesting thing. I’ve felt a strong pull to help women who have experienced pregnancy loss after I went through it myself. I began my miscarriage doula training just over a week ago after finding the right course for me through . After getting through a couple modules I was required to do a reading and write a book report on it.
I chose this book, which was delivered yesterday, and the timing of it all couldn’t have been more impeccable.

As we enter January, I’m reminded that this is the month we lost our pregnancy last year, that this was the final two weeks we would have with our third son. Although I have found some healing and meaning within it all, I still live day to day with grief and sadness. It doesn’t go away but you learn to live life along side it.
I have found some peace in sharing my story. I plan to do a post on the anniversary we found out we lost him explaining what my experience was, in hopes to help other women who may be going through or have gone through the same thing.
I’m holding space for you and your miscarriage matters, from chemical pregnancy to stillborn/infant loss.

I’ve been asked this question quite a few times so I put together a few things that doulas do vs what doulas don’t do.

Hey everyone! I’m Courtney and I’m a new birth doula starting out in the San Diego and North County area! A little bit about me, I am a wife and a mother to three boys, two in my arms and one in my heart! I am currently in the birth doula certification process through DONA. Meanwhile, I have completed/ been working on some additional doula trainings. I’ve completed the Doula Education Series through , the Vbac Doula Training through and I just began working on my Miscarriage Doula Training through .
