Sometimes called 'Adult Foster Care', the role of Family Home Provider is to open their home to an adult with a developmental disability, and to provide that individual with ongoing care and support - integrating them into their family life. Providers do this with the support of our Agency, Independent Options :)
So where do you even start with such an endeavor? Well...
Once you have completed the training, screening, and background clearance necessary to become a Family Home Provider, you and your home will be certified through the Regional Center - at which point you can begin the matching process!
During the matching process, Independent Options works closely with the Family Home Provider, potential client, and Regional center to determine if a placement will be made.
Upon placement, the Family Home Provider assumes the role of caregiver for their placed individual. This includes the primary duties of...
- Providing a clean and pleasant bedroom and home for your individual
- Sustained care and supervision of the individual
- Providing the individual with 3 meals a day in addition to snacks
- Medication Administration - maintaining a medication admin log
- Transportation the individual to and from medical appointments
- Attending quarterly trainings with FHA staff
- Attend the clients Quarterly and Annual Team Meetings.
- Make your home available to IO Staff for scheduled Monthly Home Visits - in addition to two unannounced home visits
- Abide and adhere to all Title 17 regulations (Don't worry, we will teach you all about this during training!)
It's important to note that support looks different for every individual we serve. You may be best equipped to support a client who works 5 days a week and wants to buy their first car - or you may be best equipped to support a client with limited mobility who needs assistance with walking to the bus for day program... just like any other person - the individuals we support have different support needs and wants! This is why the matching process is so crucial!
