This is a no-judgment zone where you can get supplies, strategies and health resources to reduce the damage done by substance use. The mission of the Step In Project is to meet substance users where they are and provide education, support, and harm reduction methods to improve their quality of life and reduce the amount of harm done by substance use. Community outreach has been the cornerstone of Stepping Stone’s commitment to providing substance use disorder recovery option to the LGBTQ+ community. They are well established in providing harm reduction services to HIV positive clients seeking help with SUD services and experience in prevention strategies.

You may think that someone is living on the street because they are a substance user, but what may actually be true is that they use substances because they are living on the street and need to stay awake to stay safe. Ensuring people have somewhere safe to live is Harm Reduction.

Just because someone is using substances doesn't mean they should not have food to eat. We can help people access the social services they need as part of Harm Reduction services.

Harm Reduction in no way opposes abstinence. If someone engaging with HR services wants to become abstinent, we will help them get started on that journey. But if they do not want to become abstinent, we will help them on the journey they are on.

Keep in touch with your friends even when you're using. If they don't hear from you for a while they will know where to look to make sure you're ok.

Harm Reduction strategies do not encourage drug use. They simply help the individual mitigate the harm caused by the drugs. This gives them the chance to decide for themselves when and if they want to stop using.
