Since plastics became commonplace in the fifties, most of them are still existing in our environment, oceans and soil. The reason is that they break up in time into millions of microparticles.
The second bad news is that very little of the so-called recyclable plastic is recycled. A lot of them are just too small or they are colored, which makes them unrecognizable by the sorting machines.
