Rage is an emotion, and it deserves to be felt... But being stuck in anger doesn't help you, or anyone around you.

These are 3 tips to transform your fury by learning how to pause instead of pitching a fit. Expressing your emotions is natural and healthy, although ruminating and identifying yourself with emotions like rage doesn't actually help you process it - you might even be wiring your brain to hold that anger and cultivate more of it.

Once you can pause and get even a little bit of perspective on the situation, then you can look for opportunities to make sure your needs are met, and ways to take action, to find resolution and even make an impact that improves your life in the moment and with lasting benefit.

Are you ready to let go of your anger?

Regulation is not all that your nervous system wants from you!

A funny thing happened when I saw Mae Martin in San Diego... I got called out along with all the creators who want to help you regulate your nervous system.

And Mae is right!!!
Regulation is NOT the only goal.
In fact, we should feel dysregulated in this mad, mad, mad, mad world! The power is in having the tools to come back into balance, but not until you have received the signal that your 'fight or flight' stress response is sending you.

First, recognize what you're perceiving is a threat. Next, understand what is needed: moving yourself to safety or taking an action to reaffirm that you have power in the moment. Aaaaaand then, check in with your nervous system and use the tool from your toolkit that will bring you back into parasympathetic balance - You're building resilience and your confidence in meeting the challenges that life serves up.

Thanks Mae, for leading me to look on my message with fresh eyes. And for creating this awesome hat! Love your art and your presence, you rocked the house.

Did you know that the Vagus Nerve, aka "the wanderer" regulates your body's stress response? It communicates with all of your major organs so they can respond to stress - and also come back to relaxation and recovery in the parasympathetic stress state.

These basic exercises with some simple variations can help you come back to balance quickly, and you can do them anywhere!

For more info about the vagus nerve and restoring balance in your body check out the episode on the podcast at HappifiedLife.com - just search 'vagus nerve' to find episode 140

When I worked in theater, it was always ‘work until you drop’, and ‘all clocks count down to opening night’ - sometimes the paint would still be wet on the set when actors took the stage. It took me years to break the cycle of running on adrenaline, but these exercises will help you make the switch, fast.

Simple physical activities help you complete the stress cycle, and then tell your body that you are safe.

1: Shaking, bouncing, getting grounded in your body. The energy you use gives stress somewhere to go, and metabolizes the stress hormones flowing in your system. Also helps get you out of your head and back in your body so you focus on what you want, instead of anxiety or worry.
2: Give yourself a hug! It simulates the vagus nerve and boosts oxytocin, for more resilience and less inflammation
3: Scanning with your eyes. Best option, get outside for a walk! But if you’re stuck inside, take a few moments to scan your eyes side to side, the same way you would take in the landscape as you walk. When you’re calmly scanning your environment, your body receives the signal that there is no threat and you come back to parasympathetic balance
4: Exhale like you’re cooling a cup of tea or a bowl of hot soup. Longer exhales change the pressure in your chest, and as your breathing slows, so does your heart rate! Feel more calm with every breath.
5: Step into the bathroom and rinse your face with cold water. Cold against your face and neck activates the mammalian diving reflex, immediately telling your body to slow your heart rate and breathing as if you would be swimming underwater. This vagus nerve activation calms stress fast.

Did you yawn or sigh? Then it worked!
Use these often to train your body how to break the cycle of chronic stress and boost your resilience.

Which ONE are you going to try first?

Feel like you’re chained to your desk?
What if you gave yourself permission to get away - even for 20 minutes? Heck, make it 10.

It’s easy to feel like you need to accomplish one more thing (and probly one more thing after that) before you “deserve” a few minutes away from the grind.

But here’s what you need to know: 10 minutes of walking, getting outside, or another way to get away from your work and hit reset, pays of with more focus, access to creative thinking and problem solving skills, and makes the rest of your to-do list easier.

So, take the walk! Share this with a friend who deserves a reset 💞

If you're not stressed.... you're lying to yourself. 😏

How do you come back to balance in this crazy world we are living in?
You can reclaim control of your stress response by stimulating your Vagus Nerve - this nerve communicates with all of your major organs, and by stimulating it with this easy exercise you can give it a message of safety, moving your body from sympathetic 'fight or flight' response back to parasympathetic 'rest & digest' balance.

Humming is an amazing "massage" for your vagus nerve!
Try humming for a few minutes and let the vibration warm and loosen your throat, and your vagus nerve will receive the message that you are not under threat. This helps to calm your breathing, slow your heart rate, and restore your digestion (which is really susceptible to stress, and responds by going off line - big no bueno).

Share this tip with your stressed out friend 🤗 and let me know what song you're humming in the comments!
