In the meantime, I'm swapping out my smartphone for some good old-fashioned R&R, because let's face it, even therapists need a digital detox every now and then! ๐Ÿ“ต

But why May, you ask? Well, my lovely humans, May is like the MVP of mental healthโ€”it's the month where we crank up the self-care vibes, bust out the stigma-busting megaphones, and remind the world that taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies! ๐Ÿง 

And what better way to honor Mental Health Awareness Month than by practicing what I preach and giving myself some well-deserved TLC (Tender, loving, care)? ๐ŸŒธ

Stress, in moderation, can indeed have beneficial effects on the body and mind.

It can serve as a motivating force, helping individuals meet deadlines, perform well under pressure, and respond effectively to challenges.

This type of stress, often referred to as "eustress," can enhance focus, productivity, and resilience.

However, when stress becomes chronic or overwhelming, it can have severe negative consequences on physical and mental health.

While some levels of stress can be beneficial, chronic or excessive stress can have serious detrimental effects on physical and mental health.

It's essential to manage stress effectively through healthy coping strategies, self-care practices, and seeking support when needed to maintain overall well-being and reduce the risk of stress-related health problems.

Hard truth: There's hope at the end of the tunnel but we often forget...

That some people find it hard to even go through the opening of that tunnel.

The journey of healing is met with uncertainty, fear, and resistance.

The darkness of the tunnel can obscure the glimmers of hope that await on the other end. It's easy to lose sight of the possibility of healing.

But it's also important to remember that HOPE exists. Even in the darkest moments, there is the potential for growth, resilience, and transformation.

While experiencing trauma is undoubtedly difficult, you can still grow and thrive in the aftermath.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and it's time to send healing love to all who have suffered this trauma. ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ™Žโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™Žโ€โ™‚๏ธBoth male and female trauma survivors, as well as LGBTQ+ folx, share a common bravery and tenacity.

The horrors of sexual violence often take place at home or work. Places that should be safe! Where "bravery" shouldn't be needed.

Their stories differ - men often struggle with societal expectations and being accepted, while women frequently face victim blaming.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆFor LGBTQ+ survivors, it's a double battle with sexual violence and homophobia.

๐Ÿ’”But let's remember, we are united in our fight against sexual assault and desire for justice.

This month, we honor their strength and resilience. Let's stand together, and let love lead the way.

We want to CELEBRATE the resilient women around us โ€“ you, me, all of us! ๐ŸŒŸ

This moment is for the brave hearts who have weathered storms and emerged stronger.

But... let me ask you something... if you're healing from s-trauma how does it actually feel to be called:

Brave
Strong
Resilient
Awe-inspiring
Tougher for it

Does it land how people hope it does?

I would hope so, but I've heard differently. Over and over.

So, if you're not feeling particularly strong and are pi**ed that your life was hijacked by trauma
VALID
If you would have rather been able to get out of that relationship or childhood without a nervous system on fire
VALID
If you don't want to be a symbol of anything for anyone for any reason that means you had to pay a price
100% GOT IT

AND...

When you're having a moment, a day, a YEAR or decade that you don't feel seen
When you don't think anyone gets the grind of taking care of yourself for pain no one can visibly see
Or, when a**hats want to talk about how victims of actual crimes should "let it go"...

Take in a bit of the awe from others. Breathe in the truth that you can be strong without feeling strong.
Know that there are people right where you are, where you were, and where you're headed that YOU
might look at and feel pride about since you know what it takes. And that counts.

It doesn't erase what happened, but in order to shift towards change we DO need all the good vibes we can gather. So, if you can grab THAT, do it!

This month, let's celebrate us. Let's uplift, support, and cheer for one another.๐Ÿฅ‚

When the past casts a shadow on our present, sharing it with our significant other can seem hard.๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™€๏ธ

Only open up when you feel truly ready. Wait until you are in a safe space, both physically and emotionally, before initiating this conversation. You can also discuss this with your therapist or close trusted friend

The timing is vital.โฐ Choose a moment when you both are relaxed and free of distractions.

When sharing, use "I" statements. For example, "I feel... when...".

Don't forget that hearing sexual abuse disclosures affects both the person telling the story, as well as the person listening.

As a trauma survivor myself and a certified trauma-informed therapist, I know how challenging it can be to open up about something so personal.
