**This is a page all about 'hoomins' and 'bunnehs'; a peek into my family's bunneh world, and the lives of our 4 rescued house-rabbits (our bunnehs). We live in the Rancho Penasquitos area of San Diego, Ca.
[1] Eadie (short for Eadie Van-"Hay"-Len) is a Black Havana rabbit (female/spayed), and weighs about 4.5 lbs. She was born in July 2011 and adopted from the Western PA Humane Society in Pitts
burgh, PA in March 2012 by our daughter who was living there for College. Eadie had been "abandoned" at an area pet-store, and was turned over to the Humane Society. She moved in with us in San Diego in May 2013 when our daughter graduated and went on to her first "big girl" job, and an apartment that wouldn't allow rabbits. And so, the 'Crazy Bunneh Lady' was born.
[2] In September 2014, we adopted Trixie (short for Trixie Tang - a Fairly Odd-Parents character) from the San Diego Companion Rabbit Society, Inc (female/spayed); she was 8 months old, putting her birthday sometime in January 2014. Best guess is she is some kind of Dwarf/Petite-mix; She weighs just under 3 lbs, has Agouti coloration and looks just like a wild cottontail. As a matter of fact, Trixie became a shelter rabbit after she and her sister were mistaken for a couple of orphaned wild cottontail rabbits, and turned over to the Wild Animal Services. They could not continue to care for them as they were determined to be domestics, and not wild rabbits. Trixie's sister found her forever home shortly before I met Trixie, who was then left by herself at the SDHRS shelter without her sister. It took about 5 days of some intense territoriality for Eadie and Trixie to bond, but bond they did and they have not been apart since. We refer to them together as "ET".
[3] On January 2, 2015, we adopted Romeo - also from the San Diego House (Companion) Rabbit Society (male/neutered); he was 3 years old, and we designated his "birthday" as December 22, 2011. He is an all white Mini-Satin with short pointed pixie/elf ears, and weighs about 3.25 lbs. He had been adopted a month earlier, but returned to the shelter due to a failed bonding - so we are giving him his own space, and alternating him with Eadie/Trixie (aka ET) in the "common area". He is happy just snuggling with us on the couch while the other 2 bunnehs roam around, but for now, there will be no unsupervised community time, and there are no short term plans for group housing of the 3 of them together. Fast forward a few months, and the 2 girls on one side of the wire separation and Romeo on the other started showing signs of wanting to be together. So we cautiously allowed them limited time together, mixing Romeo with one - then the other, and sometimes all 3 together. It took a little patience, but over time it was clear they could be housed together, and by the end of the summer 2015, separate living areas were done away with. The "3-Stooges" were born!
[4] In mid-August 2016, there were some large bunny-rescues here in San Diego all at the same time, putting stress on all the area shelters. I volunteered to foster some of the rescued babies that no longer needed to be nursed by their moms to give a little relief to Shelly's Shelter Rescue in Bonita. There were 5; 2 5-week old brothers, a 6-week old boy, and 2 8-week old sisters. They were "named" A-B-C-D-E, and over time, each evolved a foster-name beginning with their letter. A & B, the 2 sisters, were taken into one of the larger shelters in the area fairly soon after they came to us, as they were older. C, D & E, the 3 boys, stayed with us for a month, and in mid-September C & D went back to Shelly's Shelter, while "E", being the littlest one, stayed with me for a little longer (C & D were both adopted in fairly short order)! E became Baby-E, and then became Baby-Eeyore. Over the next month, we noticed that the now 10-week old white Lionhead with beautiful red eyes was making himself right at home with our "3-stooges", and they seemed to be accepting of him without much effort on our part. As a matter of fact, once he was the only foster here, he seemed to have brought a "balance" to our existing 3 bunnies. As a family, we decided he was meant to be here, and at 3 months we formally adopted him and designated his birthday as early July 2016. The "3-stooges" had become the "4-musketeers". Eeyore had his "big boy" surgery in mid-October 2016, and has joined the other house-buns wonderfully. So welcome to the world of the "Crazy Bunneh Lady", Queen Eadie, Princess Trixie, Prince Romeo, and Baby-Eeyore!
