Earlier this month Paradise Valley Hospital hosted a tour of students from Bogenhofen Adventist College, an intermediate high school located in Austria. Last year instructors at Bogenhofen AC reached out to Paradise Valley Hospital and requested a tour of our facility as part of a class trip to California. Paradise Valley Hospital was founded in 1904 by Ellen G. White, one of the co-founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is historically significant for followers of that religion.
The tour group consisted of 17 students who ranged in age from 16-19, and two adult chaperons. They were shown around the hospital, with a focus on items and locations related to Ms. White and our Adventist heritage. The students were shown our historical murals located in the front lobby, display cases in our medical office building that hold artifacts from the hospital’s history, the original well that was dug in 1904 that saved the fledgling hospital from failing. The tour ended with a picnic lunch at the Harder Heritage House, a home that stood next to the original sanitarium, built in the late 1800s and preserved with era-specific furnishings.
It was a great time, and the students were very attentive and lively.
