My Story
It is my calling to help encourage people to value their personal story. This is done by recognizing their strengths and using them for healing, recovery, finding balance, and discovering their worth. I can help you become more self-aware and to find the power to heal by helping to guide your journey. I know it takes a lot of energy and time to invest in yourself by seeking therapy, and I encourage you to recognize that you are worth it. I believe your story deserves to be heard and validated. Sometimes, it takes all the energy you have just to show up, but that will be your victory. I am passionate about my faith and about helping those who desire healing in their relationship with God, themselves and others. I create a safe space for all of my clients, regardless of where they are in their faith journey or their belief system. Joy and healing can come from being around a loving animal. This is why I bring my 5 lb. Yorkie, Brutie, into the therapy with us. He loves everybody and has the power to make humans smile. He is happy to be held, pet or to sit quietly. On a personal note: I grew up outside of Boston and made my way across the country 21 years ago. When I am not working, you will find me cooking nutritious foods, tossing a ball with Brutie at the park, attending yoga classes, participating in church activities, spending quality time with friends, and happily exploring all the hidden treasures that Southern CA so generously offers.
NEW in 2018: If you are interested in using a "skype-like" medium for receiving therapy, please let me know. This is called telemedicine, telehealth or teletherapy. I am using a platform called doxy.me. It is HIPAA compliant and works automatically in popular browsers. You will need access to a computer (with internet and a camera), as well as a confidential, cozy space (home, work, etc) to receive treatment. My URL is https://doxy.me/sarahgrecotherapy My experience and training include trauma-informed care, play therapy, co-occurring disorders, motivational interviewing, family systems therapy, couples therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy and holistic health methodologies. Prior to becoming a therapist, I managed a program serving severely mentally ill, homeless adults. I was privileged to support this routinely underserved population here in San Diego, giving me a renewed perspective of the value and worth of every human life. I have also had the blessing of serving and supporting victims of domestic violence, developmentally disabled adults, children with open CPS (Child Protective Services) cases, and Veterans with co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance abuse). Currently, I provide therapy to multiple active duty military members and their families. I regularly provide enthusiastic, on-site local classes and workshops on topics such as: The Value of Self Care in the Work Place, Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Recovery and Treatment Planning, Stages of Change, Effective Boundary Setting, Non Violent Crisis Intervention, & Su***de Assessment and Prevention. I am a qualified supervisor for MFT, MSW and LPCC interns and trainees. Please let me know if you are an intern or trainee interested in receiving my clinical supervision. I either serve or have served as a clinical supervisor for interns/trainees at:
