I’ve have my own unique experience when it comes to racism and oppression as a mixed, light olive, curvy female.
I took a racial studies course in college and learned a lot. We had discussions daily about the racial inequality and how deep it runs in our social infrastructure.
I was blasted open to my own white privilege and confused as to where I was on the spectrum of race. I fell in between when we divided into groups of White, Black, African, Indiginous, Mexican, Hispanic, Latin American, Asian, Pacific Islander. I was alone. I couldn’t relate to anyone with the experience I had growing up.
So here I was being confronted with the pain and ignorance of myself and the people around me.
I argued. I debated, I apologized, I listened, and I took initiative to learn and be an ally to people of color who experience daily stress because of the depth of racism in our social structures/laws.
Just because we are hearing about this now doesn’t mean it’s not ALWAYS present.
People with brown skin have been speaking for ages of their suffering.
