Change the Way You Breathe to Relieve Stress, Boost Energy, and Get Stronger

A fantastic article on the principles of Postural Restoration and the importance of breathing!

Change the Way You Breathe to Relieve Stress, Boost Energy, and Get Stronger The seminar looks like a faith healing. Seated elbow-to-elbow at tables set amid squat racks and weight sleds, more than 30 trainers crane their necks to see the miracle unfolding at the front of the room. The lights are dimmed, save for one illuminating a massage table where a man lies faceup and s…

Terrific Tip of the week: are you an active person? Do you compete or play in any type of sport? Try a pre-event massage the day before your next event. Circulatory massage is a great way to get the blood flowing and flush any accumulated toxins from your muscles. It can also help to relax and calm your mind- easing any nervousness. So before your next run, basketball game, weightlifting meet etc.. get a massage and see how great you can feel for your sporting event!

Terrific Tip of the week: two wonderful (and inexpensive!) mobility tools are a lacrosse ball and a foam roller. With these two items you can successful perform self-massage on practically any part of the body. Foam rollers are easily found online for about $30. Lacrosse balls sell for about $8 at your local sporting goods store. Use on any tight areas and sore spots daily for best results and you can do wonders for your mobility for less than $40!

Terrific tip of the week: drink more water!! Most people do not drink the amount of water they need. Especially the day of a massage try to stay hydrated. Drinking several big glasses of water after a massage will prevent headache and excessive soreness by flushing the toxins out of your system. Avoid drinks like soda or alcohol after a massage and if you must drink juice try to water it down. You will feel better for it!

Massage Therapist Tip of the Week:
Stretch! Most people say they know how valuable stretching is but don't do it often enough. Try for every day. Or at least a few days a week. When stretching take your time to ease into it- go until you feel a pull, hold, take a few deep breaths and concentrate on your muscles letting go. Remember a few well done stretches are better than many done poorly. Focus on your tight areas and have fun!!

Massage tip of the week: to get the most out of your massage experience communicate with your therapist! Make sure you keep them informed of any sensations you are feeling. Remember your therapist is working with you so take an active part. Also try deep breathing and relaxing on the exhale- its a great way to let go of all the tension.
