How To Detox Your Armpits 👇🏻

Detox your armpits? If you read that title and shook your head, or maybe you even chuckled a bit, stick with me for a moment. Let’s just put it all out there and talk about armpits. You may be surprised to learn the many functions that occur in that damp crevice between your arm and torso.

Armpit Anatomy 👇🏻

The armpit, also called the axilla, can be the source of unpleasant odors, embarrassing wetness, and a hairy annoyance. But your armpits form an important juncture that protects important lymph nodes and soft tissue. In fact, more than 20 lymph nodes reside in each armpit, along with a high concentration of sweat glands and hair follicles. That’s about 6% of your body’s lymph nodes in just that small area.

The lymph system consists of a network of lymph vessels and nodes. As part of the body’s immune system, the lymph system collects fluid, waste material, bacteria, viruses, and other toxins from body tissues. These waste materials are then routed to the lymph nodes. They contain immune cells that help fight infection by attacking and destroying germs. Once lymph fluid is concentrated within the lymph nodes, it filters back into the bloodstream where the kidneys take care of the waste material.

So you see the important role of lymph nodes for keeping the body healthy and clean. This underlines the importance of keeping your armpits clean as well. The small pores in our armpits can become clogged from using commercial antiperspirants, which are specifically designed to block sweat glands. For more information about the risks associated with deodorant/antiperspirants, check out this post, Four Toxins Lurking in Your Deodorant.

Signs You Need an Armpit Detox 👇🏻

Odor

Have you noticed your deodorant just isn’t working as effectively as it used to? Or maybe you have to reapply during the day or just notice an increase in your personal – ahem – aroma. In reality, sweat doesn’t stink. It’s colorless and odorless. What creates body odor is the bacteria on your skin. Our armpits provide ideal conditions for bacteria to thrive. This region is dark, moist, and warm — the perfect home. An increase in body odor is a sign that your bacterial flora has changed, or maybe it has just accumulated too much. A detox can help draw out bacteria and cleanse the area.

Irritation from Deodorant

Especially if you recently made the switch to a natural deodorant, you may have an itching or burning rash in your armpits. The product you use determines in part the flora under your arms. When you make a switch, the microbiome under your arms will change in response to the ingredients in your deodorant.

Switching to a Natural Deodorant 👇🏻

As mentioned above, when you switch your deodorant, it directly affects the armpit microbiome. If you switch from a commercial antiperspirant to a natural deodorant, you will most definitely experience a period of adjustment. You may notice more wetness and odor at first.

Logic follows that as the armpit flora changes, so will underarm odor. But since most people don’t understand the bacterial battle that occurs in their armpits, they often assume their natural deodorant is not working. Your body needs time to adjust to the change of product. Doing an armpit detox may reduce this adjustment period.

If your new natural deodorant contains baking soda, you may experience an itching or burning rash. This is because human sweat is slightly acidic, while baking soda is alkaline. When combined together, a chemical reaction takes place. The more acidic your sweat, the more noticeable this reaction may be. It can cause redness, irritation, and rash. For some people, the best solution is to find a deodorant that contains less baking soda. Others find that they no longer experience the rash after an armpit detox.

How the Armpit Detox Works 👇🏻

The armpit detox recipe is very simple. I recommend doing this detox whenever you notice any of the signs described above. You may have to repeat the detox for several days before you notice a difference in odor or other issues. You can also do a detox weekly or monthly for maintenance.

Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV contains acetic acid, which penetrates bacterial cell membranes and kills them. This means apple cider vinegar eliminates odor-causing bacteria and creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria to grow. It also helps regulate pH and is a gentle exfoliant.

Bentonite Clay

This natural clay is a unique mineral-rich substance that removes impurities, neutralizes bacteria, and alkalinizes. That is why it is so beneficial in the bacterial haven of the armpit. To learn more about bentonite clay, check out this post.

Ready to Detox 👇🏻

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon paraben-free bentonite clay
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
Instructions

Be sure to use plastic or glass bowls and utensils for this recipe, as bentonite clay reacts with metals.

In a small bowl, combine bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar to form a paste. If the mixture is too thick to spread, add a small amount of water to get the desired consistency.

Use the back of a plastic spoon or your fingers to spread the mixture on your armpits. Leave it on for about 10 minutes.

Rinse off in the shower, bath, or with a washcloth.

I enjoy making my own skin care serums. The essential oils that I add to my serums change with the weather, or my mood. I love knowing that what I am putting on my skin is all natural and chemical free.

I always use Rosehip seed oil as my base. I have tried Coconut oil, I find that it is a little drying for my face, but amazing for my body.

Rosehip seed oil is great for skincare as it helps to reduce scars and fine lines. Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids including linoleic and linolenic acid. Fatty acids help to keep cell walls strong so that they don't lose water.

The many fatty acids in rosehip oil make it an excellent option for hydrating dry, itchy. The skin also easily absorbs the oil, allowing the antioxidants to travel deep into the skin's layers.

Rosehip oil is high in Vitamins A and C. Vitamin A or retinol encourages skin cell turnover. Vitamin C also aids in cell regeneration, boosting overall radiance.

Rosehip oil helps to boost collagen formation. Since Rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin A and C, which are both necessary for the production of collagen.

Rosehip is rich in both polyphenols and anthocyanin, which help reduce inflammation. It also contains Vitamin E, an antioxidant known for its anti-inflammatory effects.

Rosehip oil helps to protect against sun damage and help to reduce hyperpigmentation. Since rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin A, C, and E, and antioxidants, they have been shown to synergystically combat visible sun damage. They may also help prevent photo aging.

Rosehip oil should not be used in place of sunscreen so please don't go out in the sun for extended periods of time without sunscreen.

The Vitamin A in rosehip oil is made up of several nutritional compounds, including retinoids. Retinoids are known for their ability to reduce signs of hyperpigmentation and other signs of aging with regular use.

Rosehip oil is rich in fatty acids which are an important part in cell regeneration making rosehip oil great for helping to reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

With all of the goodness that Rosehip oil offers you want to pair it with essential oils that will complement the properties of the oil. You also want to make sure that you are using only the best essential oils. I personally use Young Living essential oil as they are the highest quality in my opinion, I have used other and have not found the quality to be as high as Young Livings oils. I Love that you can visit their farms. Not many oil companies have that.

When it comes to skincare, I make sure that what I use on my skin is free from synthetics, pesticides, and chemical free. After all my skin is the largest organ and I want to make sure that I am using the best to keep it looking healthy, and young.

I have a little secret. There is a serum that I use that is the best serum in the whole world. I am not kidding. It makes my skin look and feel so good. It brightens and evens my skin tone.

I have people asking me to make them this serum all the time. You can make this serum too. Of course I only recommend using Young Living essential oils.

Sacred Seven Skin Serum:
Elemi- may help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Sacred Frankincense- supports skin health
Jasmine- may help reduce wrinkles
Geranium- revitalizes skin cells
Sandalwood-may help with acne, wrinkles and scars
Myrrh- may help chapped, cracked skin and wrinkles
Ylang Ylang- may help improve skin tone

Mix 6-8 drops of each oil to a 1 oz dropper bottle, fill the rest of the bottle with Rosehip Seed Oil.

You will not be disappointed with this serum. If you need some essential oils you can order those here. andrasmith.myoilsite.com

I get my dropper bottles from Sprouts, Jimbo's or you can order them off of amazon. I like the blue bottles. You will want to make sure that your bottles are dark to keep the oils safe from light.

Rosehip Seed Oil- this is a carrier oil that I get at Jimbo's or Sprouts, I make sure to get organic.

This serum is simple to make, super effective and all natural. All things you want to use on your face for essentially radiant skin.

I have a list of essential oils that I use on my skin for different reasons.

Tea Tree, Purification and Thieves helps with occasional breakouts.

Copaiba, Lavender, and Frankincense can help with irritated skin.

Peppermint is great for cooling down on hot days. Add a drop of peppermint to a cold cloth and use for hiking on hot days. Peppermint and Lavender are great together for cooling hot sun kissed skin.

Panaway is a great essential oil for rubbing on muscles after a great workout. Helping to boost muscle recovery time.

Lemon essential oil is great for nails, and hair. Rub lemon oil on hair to create a smooth look.

Digize helps to maintain healthy digestion. When you have a healthy gut your face will thank you.

RC is great for helping to boost healthy breathing. When you diffuse RC you will be cutting down on using tissues. Not using as many tissues means you wont be walking around with a red nose.

Stress Away is an essential oil that I wear as perfume. The name speaks for itself, when you are relaxed you don't frown. Who wants frown lines?

All of these essential oils can be found in the Young Living Premium Starter kit. A great way to get started on your essential oil journey.

You also get Ningxia Red packets which is an amazing drink that has tons of antioxidants. Antioxidants help you keep your skin beautiful.

There are so many great essential oils that you can use to help you have healthy radiant skin, this kit is just the tip of the iceberg.

Let me help you create your dream skincare regimen for healthy radiant skin.
