A Critical Theory Poetry Workshop

Learn the Rules of Poetry So That You Know How to Break Them. A 3 1/2 hour donation-based workshop in poetry writing, poetics and critical theory,(sliding scale up to $35, based on income; no one is turned away, regardless). Learn what makes a poem a poem and not a story or a confession. Learn poetic structures, dynamics and inspirations so that you can surpass them. Learn literary critical theory and how to apply it to your writing to become a better poet, a better writer and a better person. Workshop is taught by American Poet Igor Goldkind and Dr. Miles Krogfus, acclaimed American Poet, PHD and retired Professor of Poetry and Creative writing from the University of Minnesota English Dept. Students are asked to submit a poem or short prose piece that they are currently working on in advance of the session. TO: REALPOETRYTHERAPY@GMAIL.COM

Pieces are selected by San Diego Poet and American Academy of Poets member Igor Goldkind (author of Is She Available?, Take a Deep Breath, and spoken word album “Breathless”) and workshopped as a group. This is a real poetry course and not for the faint-hearted or thin-skinned. You have to be willing to listen openly to what others think of your writing. We will use your current writing to teach you poetics and how to find the heart beat of your work.

From another thread in response to a posting:
Relationships take a lot of hard, hard work and are exhausting. They also take a great emotional toll especially when things aren't going well. The worst suffering I have ever endured was when I was inflicting and receiving emotional earthquakes from the woman I was supposed to love and love me.

Fortunately we're friend again now after years of separation and it is our daughter that has brought us back to a civilized, reasonable discourse.

I shudder at the thought of how much of a complete bastard I was to the woman I was supposed to be, claimed to be in love with. For no fu***ng good reason but jealousy and spite. (Now to be clear, the mutual abuse was only emotional, never physical! But emotional is enough).

These days I seek only good companionship as fleeting as it might be. Good mutually satisfying s*x is not to be sneezed (or ej******ed) at. As important as s*x is laughter. And food, can't forget fine food shared.

But all the rules have changed and fortunately we've left a lot of the fairy tales behind in lost luggage. My advice to anyone is to stop 'looking for' a relationship and just enjoy good nourishing company. Nature will take care of the rest.

If you live in the moment, you're less concerned with what will or will not last.

Nothing ever does anyway.

The Mission is coming back!
All I can say for the moment because that's all I know. Meeting with angel investor today from out of county so he can't be touched by local antagonists and MAGA-morons who hate their freedom and hate art.

Q&A
Igor, if you hate America so much, why did you move back?

A: I moved back to the US to take care of my mother while she passed and to fight for my country.

You're in the military?

A: No, I despise the military. When you send soldiers to war it's because you've failed.

So?

A: But I'm a US citizen who upholds the Constitution like it was a bible. I fight for justice, for freedom; I fight for the founding principles of my nation.
I don't hate America, I love America.

A: I hate the people who have draped themselves in their flag while betraying all the values and principles the 'American experiment' was founded upon.

A: I fight for Common Sense. I fight for Reason.
I adore and find inspiration from Thomas Paine who owned no slaves and attempted to insert the abolition of slavery inn the first draft of the Constitution, only to be over ruled by the slave- owning colonists of the south.

A: I fight for truth.

Who do you fight?

A: I don't want to fight, I don't seek conflict; rather,
conflict seeks me.

A: I defend myself from those who would silence me, who would squash me, who would deny me my freedom.

A: I fight those who attack me.
Who leave midnight threats on my telephone.

A: Don't attack me and you will find a gentle poet who seeks the best in you and himself.

A: But attack me and face the consequences.

A: Don't tread on me!

Hey, chill out, man!
