Ajency Arts founder, Mensah Bey, is dedicated to combining many forms of art expressions, including visual art, music, and dance. His work draws inspiration from the Surrealist movement that challenges perceptions of truth and reality, and he views the virtual world as an evolutionary subconscious that bridges imagination with the physical world. You might recognize his signature figures with elongated necks that represent a natural curiosity and reaching out into the world. It’s a logical fit with our theme, reaching WAY outside the lines. As part of the Destination Joy project, he is painting a mural of his design (in collaboration with shop owners) on the Lao Community Plaza wall facing Imperial Avenue at Harborside Cuisine, 110 47th Street, San Diego 92102. Kim Phillips-Pea’s love for the arts began with playing musical instruments, singing in a choir and drawing. She taught herself face painting to care for her son and then began working on murals with local artists. As co-founder of Southeast Art Team, she has worked on several public art projects, helps entrepreneurs and artists expand their businesses through consignment at Oya Art Gallery & Boutique, and runs the San Diego Every Drop of Paint Tour (a guided walking tour of murals and more in Southeast San Diego).

Khalil Bleux is electric! This Word Bender, World Builder commands attention wherever he goes. The electric blue shock of curls and impeccable fashion sense are simply accouterments to the immense talent and remarkable skills this young man has to offer. He is the lead artist for the Way Outside the Lines presents Destination Joy project. Traveling with him is a dynamic cast of spoken word poets, singers, dancers, actors and a team of remarkable young artists whom Khalil is honored to have sharing their art and soul with Agency 515: The Social Education Theatre. Bleux has written the script for the Trolley show that will lead participants from San Ysidro to Southeast San Diego with exploratory stops in between. These Joy Conductors invite you to “Ride with Us Through Our Zones,” as Dorothy and all the characters (based on “The Wiz”) ponder essential questions that help us define within, across, over, under, around, beyond and way outside the lines of the communities we call home.
