San Diego is under a red flag warning, with an increased risk of fire due to Santa Ana winds. It's crucial to have an emergency plan for your family — including pets of all sizes. Create an emergency kit for your pet, including food, medication, water, bedding, toys and any other items to make them feel secure. Make sure your pets are wearing identification, including a collar with ID tag, even if your pet doesn't normally go outdoors. If your pet has a microchip, make sure your registered contact information is up to date. If there is a fire, evacuate early and don't leave your pets behind. Make a plan now for any large animals and livestock. Pets cannot fend for themselves during disasters and leaving them behind can risk their lives and the lives of rescuers.
