Happy Kwanzaa from SDBNA! Kwanzaa is an African American celebration planned over 7 days from December 26th to January 1st. Each day, a new principle is introduced, beginning with day 1, Umoja (unity) and ending with Imani (Faith). Events are planned at the World Beat Center at Balboa Park and the Malcolm X Library on Market Street. Please refer to their websites for further information.

Thank you to the Prayer Breakfast committee for producing a great event, themed: "Celebrating the Hands and Hearts that Support Our Community", which was emceed by Martha Abraham, current SDBNA member who is running for City Council in District 4. President Gwen McPherson presided over the opening remarks and acknowledged the SDBNA members who have passed away this year. Supervisor Monica Montgomey Steppe made a surprise and welcomed appearance. Vernita Todd, FACHE, delivered a powerful word to keep us encouraged. It was a wonderful time of celebration and dialogue, strengthening our community ties.

Today is World AIDS Day, and this year's theme is "Overcoming disruption and transforming the AIDS response". Globally, there is a funding crisis, and marginalized communities will be affected. As a society, we must remain committed to helping eliminate any barriers and end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
