Medications for anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder act directly on neurotransmitters in the brain to enhance them. They do not address the question, why isn’t the body creating enough neurotransmitters to keep the brain happy in the first place? What is out of balance that needs to be addressed in order for the body to return to homeostasis and function properly? The good thing about mental health is that you can do some really simple things like take digestive bitters before meals and eat good quality animal proteins to really see a difference in your brain chemistry. The best part? No side effects! I would never judge anyone for taking medication—my goal here is to educate you to empower you to feel more in control of your mental health. These are things that you can even do if you are currently taking medication to address mental health issues. Stay tuned for part 2 where I will discuss balancing your blood sugar & B vitamins 😘

Last day of 2020 (🙌🏼) thoughts: I’m so ready for some new energy. Tbh I did think about doing a “no sugar challenge” in January but realized yesterday my gut was telling me not to. Intuitive eating has really been working for me so I’m gonna stick with that. I wanted to progress towards a big goal like completing a challenge because progress=happiness and after 2020 I think we could all use a reason to be happy. But the thing is you can still achieve progress even if you’re not doing something extreme this January. Honestly you might have longer lasting results that way. Other things I’m putting my energy towards in 2021:

* cooking at home 🧑‍🍳
* eating Whole Foods & balancing blood sugar 📈
* Keeping up my fitness routine
* Saving 💵
* Trying different things to improve my sleep 💤
* Being informed 📰
* More social drinking less binge drinking🍷
* being more self assured

No shade towards anyone who chooses to try something like a no sugar challenge in January. I just don’t think I need to do that right now. What are you focusing on in the new year?? So close to that finish line hunnies let’s get itttt 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣ 🏃‍♀️

🎨 credit: | hello 👋 during this last week of 2020 I’m reflecting on the past s**t show year and thinking about what I want to manifest in 2020. It’s hard to say exactly what because my life is lacking direction rn but I’m gonna take some time this week to do a creative visualization meditation to see if I can figure out what it is I want. I suppose I do not have to figure it all out today 😌

I’m planning on taking the winter to heal and focus on my wellness. When there are so many things up in the air and out of my control, it’s nice to have control over what I’m putting into my body and how I physically feel. I thought I had done a lot of self work these past years but 2020 taught me that there is still a lot of work to be done. Which is fine. I plan to stay dedicated this winter so when spring and summer hit and we get some sense of normalcy back (🤞🏼), I’ll be ready to enjoy life and feel confident in my ability to be balanced ⚖️

If you’re looking for something you can do this January, I think a good place to start is committing to cooking at home Monday-Friday. This isn’t extreme but it’s a sustainable goal that will help you maintain healthy habits throughout the year. And if you’re still recovering from 2020 and just wanna chill this January, that’s cool too. Only you know what’s right for you in this moment so do you 🦋

holiday cookies but make them healthy 🍫🎄 paleo chocolate peppermint fudge cookies 🍪 the perfect healthy treat for yourself or your loved ones this Christmas.

Mix 1 1/3 cup super fine almond flour + 1/2 cup cacao powder + 1/4 tsp sea salt + 1 tsp baking soda + 1/2 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar replacement in a bowl.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Add in 1/2 cup melted coconut oil or grass fed butter, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (to activate the baking soda), 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips, 1/2 cup nut butter of choice, 1 tsp vanilla extract and mix well.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

In this episode we talk about intuitive eating during the holidays 🎄 I give tips for maintaining your progress and keeping things healthy ish but still delish 🍪🍷 but I also speak to those who may be struggling with their relationship with food/body image as you can hear in this clip where I talk about a past thanksgiving mindset vs my mindset this year. How to keep pasta night healthy without compromising the taste ⤵️
✨look for a pasta alternative such as lentil, chickpea or rice pasta. I swear you can’t tell the difference. I used gluten free rice pasta but also love lentil pasta. If you go for chickpea make sure it’s organic, as conventional chickpeas are high in glyphosate, a w**d killer linked to cancer.
✨make sure the ingredients of your pasta sauce does not include sugar or canola oil. I love , and canned tomato sauce.
✨add alll the veggies. LN I added eggplant, onions & mushrooms sautéed in olive oil. I garnished with broccoli microgreens which look pretty but actually contain up to 40% more nutrients than regular broccoli! Plus you barely taste them.
✨add a moderate amount of animal protein and you’ll have a complete meal with protein, fat & carbohydrates that will keep you satisfied and stabilize blood sugar (RIP hanger)

Happy Friday! Not a typical healthy post but this weekend I’m enjoying a vacation with friends. My friend’s mom made us these quiches and they were divine 😍 it’s so nice to be able to go on vacation and not be worried about food or my body image. I owe it all to Finally Free—the intuitive eating and empowerment workshop I teach. In going through the workshop as a participant, I learned to have a healthier relationship with food + my body and resolved so much inner conflict. I broke through cycles of bingeing/dieting and learned how to nourish my body but also how to enjoy treats without guilt. I’m still a work in progress but I’ve come so far and food & dieting take up way less head space than they once did. I’ll be starting another round of the workshop in mid September! On zoom of course. DM me if you want more info 💖 it will be a great way to go into fall feeling healthy, happy & confident 🙂

The secret to foundation that goes on smooth and not flakey? Shaving your face with cleansing balm. No, shaving your face doesn’t make you grow thicker hair or a beard lol. I learned it from and she’s the skin expert okay?? I used to use ti**le eyebrow razors but just bought a razor because it’s way more sustainable and single use plastic is not on brand!!! 🌏I love BC cleansing balm because it smells like heaven and you can use it to take off makeup/wear it as an overnight mask. Sometimes when I come home on Saturday nights and I’m too lazy to take my makeup off I just put some cleansing balm on and call it a night. I always get compliments on my skin the next day which is hilarious because secretly I know that I didn’t even wash my face 🙊 beautycounter’s new foundation is the best foundation I’ve ever used and comes in 15 shades. •tomato sauce without sugar and weird oils (I usually use but they didn’t have it :/ )
