The puppy that started it all. I had just gotten my first off camera flash and, as I like to do, had been watching countless hours of educational videos on how to use it. I brought Dotti and Beefy to our garage and opened the door into the night. I didn’t have a background and the internet told me that if you want a dark background, move your light away or don’t have anything for your light to hit. Beefy got bored while I played with camera settings and light positions and went back inside. But not Dotti. I had a tennis ball. She didn’t care what I was doing as long as I threw it once in a while. I had a specific shot in mind. Click. Nope. Move light, throw ball, click. Nope again. Click, move, throw. Over and over for I don’t remember how long, her tongue filling with dirt the tennis ball picked up from the driveway every throw. Click, move, throw. Click, wait! That’s it! The first time I got close to the idea in my head. I love this photo. I loved this dog. I miss her every single day. Happy Birthday Dotti McGee. Hope someone is throwing your ball to your heart’s content.

That’s not a dog!? I know. I think I might start sharing some of my other work if you’re up for it. I do try to take decent photos of other things and the had so many opportunities. The exhibit was packed, but I’ve never been to a zoo with so many good places to stand and see. I didn’t even have to knock anyone over to get this!

So, what do you think? Stick to the puppies or do you want to see more?

Our foster Joy is a floof! A 1 year old Shepard mix that is 100% puppy. This session was challenging but we managed to snap a few photos that show how pretty she is. I mean, she’s giving blue steel a run for its money in the second photo.
