Protect Our Pointers (POP) 2015 Spring Donation Drive
All Pointer Student Athletes are part of a proud tradition of excellence; at last count Point Loma High School has more athletic teams than any other high school in the District. The coaches and staff work in tandem with parents, families, alumni and community sponsors to provide an environment that promotes fair play and winning, while kee
ping athlete safety a priority. Our Head Athletic Trainer (ATC) Megan Skelton, Associate ATC Ryan Nokes and their staff of PLNU interns are on duty each day at 7th period for a minimum of 3 hrs in the Athletic Training Room. "As a Certified Athletic Trainer, my mission is to provide quality and professional healthcare to student athletes. I strive to protect and prevent injury to our student athletes by encouraging proper hydration and nutrition, inspecting equipment and proper fitting, educating athletes regarding the avoidable risks of athletics, and instituting injury prevention and conditioning programs. My role also entails the treatment of immediate and emergent injuries sustained in practice and competition by supervising these events and instituting emergency action protocols in the event of serious trauma or illness. I am equipped to examine and diagnose sports-related injuries, and I collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals to determine the appropriate limitations and treatment of these injuries. I implement therapeutic rehabilitation programs, prophylactic taping and bracing, and sports massage and modalities to treat all athletic injuries, ranging from acute to chronic. In short, my goal is to prevent injuries that are avoidable, effectively treat those that aren't, and keep our athletes on the field." Skelton, ATC
