Legacy of the RMS Queen Mary

Legacy of the RMS Queen Mary A place for lovers of the RMS Queen Mary to gather and celebrate the legendary ocean liner. The RMS Queen Mary is an unprecedented legend on the seas.

The crown jewel of British shipbuilding, the RMS Queen Mary is indeed the unrivaled "Queen of the Seas." With her rich art deco design, the Queen Mary began her journey as a luxurious ocean liner, sailing the Atlantic waters from Southampton - Cherbourg - New York City. Cunard's crew members were known for their unwavering hospitality and devotion to the liner. Each class of passenger had its own share of plentiful amenities and conveniences. It has often been said that the Queen Mary was, and in a sense is, a palace on the seas. She then proved her worth and courage during WWII, almost nearing her end of days many times. However, like a Phoenix rising from the flames, the grand liner prevailed, endured and successfully fulfilled her job as a troopship and hospital ship. Winston Churchill once said, "Built for the arts of peace and to link the old world with the new, the Queens challenged the fury of Hitlerism in the battle of the Atlantic. Without their aid, the day of final victory must have unquestionably been postponed." Indeed, both sister ships saved the lives of numerous men, women and children. In December of 1967, the Queen Mary finally came to rest at Long Beach, California, and once again opened her decks to the public as a museum and hotel. In her new golden age, she has many amazing plans for her future. The Queen Mary deserves our undying thanks as she has done so much for humanity. Ever since I set foot on her decks, I immediately fell in love with her soul. I have spent the past 12 plus years intensely researching the liner's rich history. I enjoy hearing about the sailing stories, accounts and experiences from her former crew, passengers, WWII veterans and war brides. It's a great feeling to connect with those who sailed the oceans on this Queen of the Seas. I have established this page as a way to connect and bring together anyone who has a history on the ship. Additionally, this page will allow those to hear about various experiences and memorable times spent aboard the vessel. The RMS Queen Mary is very near and dear to my heart. I have a very special bond with her and thus, I want to share this with others in hopes of connecting people to the ship and all that she has accomplished. Long live the Queen,
Nicole Strickland
