As I continue to evolve my mentorship to postpartum doulas inside of The Helping Babies Sleep Method Certification program where I teach pods how to implement gentle never sleep shaping to avoid common sleep pitfalls people think are normal , I thought it was important to become certified as a Doulas and newborn care specialist. I've been coaching parents on feeding and sleeping for 11+ years at The Helping Babies Sleep and Parenting Group.
I've recently added a team member to help parents with sleep in the special needs population. My team member, Laurie Glickman, MSW has 20 years experience as an early childhood interventionalist and training as a sleep consultant.

She works with parents in a 4 week engagement to help improve sleep for kids with autism, ADHD and sensory processing disorder up to age 8 years of age.

She also does some parent coaching for parents in this population.

Hello 2024 and new friends here!
Hey friends, it’s been a minute. I wanted to take a moment and say hey! I’m Dr. Sarah Mitchell. I’m a chiropractor by training but found my passion empowering parents to teach their little ones to sleep and parent confidently day and night! I’m a baby sleep expert, lactation counselor and overall parent coach.
I’ve been teaching parents for over 10 years! I can’t believe it. My oldest turned 13 yesterday and he was my inspiration for this service and for my bestselling book on Amazon, The Helping Babies Sleep Method; The Art and Science of Teaching Your Baby to Sleep. With my healthcare background I felt like I should just ā€œknowā€ what to do when it came to parenting, but good god, it didn’t work out that way. I found myself in a sleep abyss and was cranky, frustrated and only wanting the very best for my child - conflicting emotions of it being the BEST journey and the WORST at the same time. So I went to work researching baby sleep science and behavior to develop a methodology to work for my family.
What I’m for:
Helping children (and humans) feel safe and secure

Adventure (parenting is the biggest of them all)

Are you using white noise all night long? Might be time to reconsider.

In November 2023 the American Academy of pediatrics, issued a policy statement about pediatric use of white noise.

ā€œ Infant sleep, machines produced sounds in the location where the infant sleeps to soothe the infant and mask other noises. Several studies show potential benefits and ease in falling asleep, decrease in crying, and increasing pain threshold.

One study of 14 sound machines, however, raised concerns that sound levels of three machines exceeded occupational limits, and that hearing damage could occur if machines were played for more than eight hours.

If sound machines are used, it may be safer to

✨locate them as far away as possible from the infant,

✨set the volume as low as possible, and

✨limit duration of use. ā€œ

These suggestions are based unlimited data on how processing white noise for the in the pediatric brain may impact development.

12 years ago when my kids were babies, we didn’t play white noise all night long. It was a tool to help minimize distractions when falling asleep.

Let’s go back to that.
