There are many ways we, the Le Tusa Community, can help prevent su***de during Su***de Prevention Month!

1. Having your organization, classroom, friend group, and neighbors know that su***de prevention is everyones’ responsibility.
2. Check-in regularly by texting, visiting, or calling them shows that you care.
Be proactive in your support! Offer your support and don’t wait for people to reach out!
3. Creating inclusive spaces without stigma where people feel supported and not isolated.
4. Start a conversation surrounding mental health. By listening as a community, we take away the stigma, making it safer to ask for help.
5. Create a Peer support Group and offer a place of belonging to those who need it!
6. Take the time for your community to learn crisis numbers, such as 988, in case they need to call.
7. Organize advocacy for policies that create safer systems!

If a community member is struggling mentally and emotionally or showing signs of distress, encourage them to seek professional help and stay with them!

What are some ways your community is preventing su***de?

Talking about su***de isn’t harmful — silence is. One honest, caring conversation can save a life. Start a conversation.

- Know the warning signs: ‼️⚠️ Loss of interest in activities, increased withdrawal from others, or giving away personal belongings.
- Be aware of contributing factors. 🤔 🧠 The death of a loved one, bullying or life changes can make someone feel trapped or helpless.
- Remember to reach out to Someone. 🫂 🤳 Offer to help them connect with a support network, professional resources, or simply offer your care.

When spending time with friends, it's important to trust your instincts and speak up If something doesn't feel right or safe. Good friends will respect your boundaries and support your decisions, even if you choose not to participate in certain activities.

Here are some safer choices with friends:

1. 🎒 Be prepared before you go out. Take all the essentials with you and make sure to familiarize yourself with the location of the meetup point.
2. 🙅 It’s okay to say no. Your friends may ask you if you want to partake in certain activities to be polite. But if you don’t feel comfortable, it’s okay to decline and say no.

This July 26, we celebrate the passing of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Act offers legal protection against discrimination in public life against folks with disabilities.

Justin Dart, Judy Huemann, and many others were instrumental in getting the Act passed in 1990. They worked with different administrations to break down barriers for folks with disabilities. Thanks to the ADA, public and private institutions require accommodations in their spaces!
