I had an idea!

I spoke with colleagues about it that had more expertise with the systems and processes that would be needed to help me be successful with my first patent submission. We collaborated and sent it off to our Intellectual Property team and it was reviewed and approved to be sent off the US Patent Office!

I am very fortunate that our IP team makes the process super easy and walks us through it all.

In 35 days I will celebrate my 2 year anniversary with Zoox but today I celebrate !

As my shirt says I ❤️Safety and that passion for safety is one of the things that led me to work with this amazing crew. The future is indeed for riders!!!

Took a high speed train from Milan to Padova in Italy. Of course being the “Safety Guy” I had to check out the emergency equipment onboard. The trains all have multiple smoke detectors and a plumbed fire suppression system onboard (from my limited research, it appears to be a high-pressure water mist system). They also had fire extinguishers, automatic external defibrillators, and escape hammers to break the windows of the trains. Pretty impressive in our train car! 🚆

I discovered a first for me after 30+ years in the fire service and occupational safety profession. Specially designed for very congested urban areas, the underground fire hydrants are discreet and offer a high degree of safety. They rigorously comply with standards NF EN 14339, NF S 61211/CN and the CE mark. It’s my understanding they also are much less likely to freeze in the harsh winters of many European countries. 🇨🇭

One of the things that really impressed me with the larger cities in Italy was the installation of AEDs on the streets in public area. Such a simple thing could easily save a life when needed.

Such a simple method of maintaining fire extinguisher inventories at our hotel in Milan, Italy. They added sequential number stickers to the required signage. Easy-peasy!

Although not occupational safety related I thought these vending machines a great service, especially for young lovers or teenagers who may be too embarrassed to purchase contraceptives from a store. The takeaway is make personal protective equipment available to all persons, all the time!

Ok, this isn’t a safety observation or unsafe condition but I just HAD to share this because I am SO excited. I have never attempted to present PDC but this year I met some amazing folks and we had some ideas. I just got my first acceptance and still waiting to hear back on my 2nd proposal.
