Hey Cincinnati community! I'll be making a Cincinnati trip next week and I'm teaching a Hatha Flow Yoga class at DanceFix !!

A special shout-out to my SCPA Alumni!!! Come take my class!!! We can all go out for dinner somewhere afterwards?!

Saturday, February 10th from 4-5:15pm EST.
Register: https://momence.com/s/99236717

I'd love to share this class with you and provide an accessible experience for everyone. Whether you've been practicing for a long time or interested to learn how Yoga can be of benefit to you right now, at this moment in life, in your body - this class can help create a healthy space for what it means to practice. I'd love to share my 15 years of teaching Yoga with you.

These practices that originated from South Asia have guidance for us that ultimately may liberate us from our suffering. Hard to imagine the possibility of that when there is so much suffering, abuse of power and manipulation of thought in our world. But when we can regulate our nervous systems and strengthen, focus and integrate our mind and body, we are more effective beings on this planet and more powerful against systems of oppression. When are body/mind feels deregulated, our choices feel limited and we're reacting to life versus responding. We are susceptible to intentional confusion and easily overwhelmed and exhausted. It's hard to find the right balance for staying involved while keeping track of self-care, but it is possible. And the world needs us to show up at our best more than ever.

February 10th is also Chinese New Year and a great time to connect and honor this day as a community. I hope you can make the time to join the practice and enjoy being together. No experience necessary and please bring a mat and any props that you'll need.

BIG BIG Thank you to Heather Britt and Alena O'Donnell for making this possible!!!!!! See you there!

As we move through this National Wellness Month, it's a good time to reflect on what wellness means to us individually and collectively. For you, what does it mean and where do you go to resource your wellness? How do we make sure that we’re taking best care of ourselves so that we have right energy to bring to whatever we do?

It’s also a good time to ask who receives the actual benefit of this inspired offering? (read more: https://momence.com/s/88310916)

The return of "100 Mixed!," first shared as the first empowerHOUR in January 2022, is back to continue this conversation: What does it mean to see all the parts that make up the whole, versus getting stuck on figuring out which half is right or better. Our first topic highlighted the topic of being mixed race and it was beautiful to share our stories. For this session, we'll ask: Do we have an innate lens to view the nature of mixedness because our journey has required us to find wholeness and even wellness in the midst of being mixed! Rather than hope for one side to come over and meet our side, what is it like to see all sides as part of the collective?

We're sure to have some juicy conversation! We believe change starts with a conversation and gains momentum amongst community. Read more and register by following the linktree in bio.

2023 is the completion year to highlight the work of for Marc's Annual Birthday Fundraiser! We've been celebrating the work of LSYS and grateful to have raised over $18,000 with your annual donations since 2017.

Our goal is to complete this 7 year journey with an ending total to LSYS of $21,000. So that means adding $3,000+ to this year's donation. We can do it!!!

Please be sure to note: Dedicate my donation in honor of: "Marc Morozumi - marc@mukundastudio.com" so that the funds will be designated towards this fundraiser.

--------------------------------

From Marc:

Please donate this year as we complete this amazing 7-year donation cycle. LSYS has been the chosen recipient because of their long-standing dedicated service to homeless teens. They offer measurable action steps for teens to support them with love and care along their path towards success.

This donation fundraiser continues to bring healing to my own journey with being a suicidal, gay, runaway teen. I experienced a brief but significant 2-weeks of being on my own and it was a powerful, life-altering time. I wished I could have known of a support network that I could have run to, or better yet, even found one before choosing to run away.

But, in many ways, that experience changed my life for good and I feel very fortunate for how protected and resourced I was for my 2-week journey. I never experienced harm except from facing my own, compilation of emotional conflict and turmoil which in many ways, began to be resolved during this experience. I know many runaway teens do not have that fortune and for that reason, I have made a vow to help support organizations that are working to support youth in crisis.

Thank you for the many donations to LSYS these past 7 years, and I hope you will join me on my birthday in finishing our total giving of $21,000!!

June's empowerHOUR will be the starter for our Summer Pride Well-being Fair - which is TODAY! Marc will host the monthly empowerHOUR community conversation from 11:30am-12:30pm PT. The focus will be on LGBTQ+ well-being from the perspectives of our presenter and practitioner team that have been gathered for today's event.

How do we, as wellness leaders, make sure to prioritize our well-being? What are some of the ways this is a specific challenge for us in the LGBTQ+ community? We will gather to discuss our own challenges, reflections and creative viewpoints and likely pose more questions.

As always, the goal of the empowerHOUR is to join in community for lively conversation around a meaningful topic. We feel the answers to the profound questions are found in the conversation. We aim to discuss the universal within the personal by deeply investigating the purpose and mission of our lives. We aim to inspire action from intentional conversation.

Please join in-person, livestream on zoom, or IG Live. Then stay for the fair! Yes, you can be a zoom-guest! The day is planned to inspire, enliven and entertain your full body/mind/spirit! We hope you'll join and add this great event to your Pride Month.

They're in the heart of the city and a place that works to serve the tender though vibrant heart of our community. While I've always known the Center was there, I feel like I'm making my first connection in the most authentic way.

I'm thrilled to announce that we'll be collaborating on an event that's set for Sunday, July 30th at Mukunda Studio. More info to come, but mark your calendar now! This month, we recognize Earth Month with the conversation starter titled, "Life is a Pile of Sh...Soil."

Rather than life being a pile of something else, what if it all could be summed up that life is a pile of soil. Soil is a rich, fertile ground that is alive, filled with organisms ready to support and sustain a regenerative cycle of life. To one person, soil might be as good as a pile of crap. And some days, life feels life that too! To someone else, this pile is the starting point for an amazing garden that could support people for generations if cared for properly. But soil can become exhausted and over farmed. It can become depleted, no longer giving the intended nutrient to what grows from it...

From this week's Mukunda Studio newsletter:

The Highs and Lows

This last week has been jam-packed with various sorts of news. From a great time returning to SF IYI to sub a Yoga class to the ongoing drama in political news that feels more like reality TV. To meeting the amazing Honey Mahogany which inspired connecting with LGBT Center's Q***r & Well team, to the sudden death of beloved Drag icon Heklina.

Life can be incredibly difficult to manage with so many highs and lows. But this is the way things appear to move in this world of duality. Life may sometimes go how we expect, but it may also snap us awake with sudden surprises. The practice is to welcome everything as our teacher. At times, it's painful being the student. But often it creates depth with compassion to self and each other.

Saluting the Spring Equinox and 3-years of becoming a Yoga and well-being studio! Mukunda Studio - A place where we "Empower the Movers of Human Kindness." Official Grand Opening was scheduled for March 21, 2020. But instead of the expected in-person experience, we had an online party! 2020 became a useful, unexpected pause that helped foster deep reflection on what it means to share the teachings of Yoga and the practices of well-being.

Thank you for all the support and love that has kept this Gay, Asian-mixed race owned, local SOMA West studio alive and well over these 3 years. And thanks to the world of livestreaming that likely would never have been seen as such a good option for practicing together.

This month, we recognize Women's History Month with the conversation starter titled, "Healing Women." We hope that title made you want to read more! What came to mind when you read that? We used the word, healing as an adjective as we express gratitude for the healing work that women have created, shared and sustained, ie women healers. Then, we used the word, healing as a verb to recognize the harm that has come from an unjust world that has seen women as less-than equal to men for centuries and even to this day. And even the question of, do women need to be healed or is the healing work to be done by those who have oppressed them?

Through conversation, awareness and education, we believe that growth and healing have more space to move. It is absolutely possible to generate greater equity among those who have been marginalized and the movement requires good fuel for the journey.

Let's join the conversation as a healing practice where the power of honest words and the energy of creative thought are the catalysts for change. Join in-person at Mukunda Studio, livestream on zoom of IG Live.

Bring your personal view to the table as well as space for conversation. All are welcome to join and to be inspired with actionable steps.
