Going into a hospital setting can be intimidating, even if it is just for your annual check-up. Happy ! Most of us have been socialized to conceptualize gender and s*x as binary--consisting of two options: man or woman, male or female. Many of us have learned to and personally identify with one or the other. However, many of us exist outside that binary--identifying with one, multiple, or no gender. Hence the term non-binary!

Recognize the diversity of gender identities in your daily life, by introducing yourself using your gender pronouns (he, she, they, etc...) and asking people for theirs. Some folks prefer you simply refer to them by name, so be sure to ask for that too! ;)

It’s ! It’s important that we validate, support, and appreciate those who identify as non-binary. We at MHASF are here for you 💙

June is Pride month, but Pride would not exist without the Black community. ✊🏿

Pride began as a result of the Stonewall Riots, which took place in 1969. A gay bar, known as the Stonewall Inn, was frequently raided by police officers. At this time, cops were allowed to arrest and harass gay and trans people. The night the Riots began, those present at the Inn decided to fight back against the police. It is believed the riots were led by trans women of color Marsha P. Johnson and Silvia Rivera. Johnson threw a brick that commenced the Riots.

From that moment on, the LGBTQ+ community and their allies began to protest. For the next six days, people protested for the rights, protection, and end of discrimination towards gay and trans people. On the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a celebration took place, which would continue yearly and come to be known as "Gay Pride."

Without strong, Black individuals, like Marsha P. Johnson, Pride would not be what it is today. We must continue to educate ourselves on topics such as LGBTQ+ Pride, and stand up for equal rights—especially for the rights of the LGBTQ+ and the Black community. ❤️💙💛🧡💚💜

Native Americans in California make up a disproportionate number of people who live on the streets or in overcrowded housing. As part of KQED's series on the state's Homekey program, we look at one project aimed at providing housing to members of a landless Northern California tribe.

Sleep-related Mental Health Tip! (Part 1/2): Leah Kramer, LCSW says that not making time for your worries can increase the chances of these thoughts intruding your sleep. To minimize this, make time to worry. Literally. "Schedule a time of day (preferably in the afternoon, and certainly well before you plan to sleep) to document your worries and plans for the following day. Limit the time to 30 minutes. This is a method to 'get it out of your system' so your mind can ultimately rest."
