Finishing up the collaboration with Janu Nelson on this terrific pivot door for an amazing shelter he designed.. The door posed several challenges around, maintaining a minimalistic approach and at the same time being for an exterior environment. thanks to Chris French I was able to implement a drop-down seal for both the top and bottom. We’re also an able to incorporate vertical seals on the jams. I love working with Jay and his team. They do beautiful work complimenting my work. Jay was a little worried about the color, but I think the oil rub bronze finish pairs well with the natural wood. The shelter will later get a deck in front of the door and some finishing treatments to really turn into something special.

America is at a tipping point. The constant noise and nonsense from both sides has reached a fever pitch, but if we are ever going to be great again, it’s not going to happen through division—it’s going to take both sides coming together for a just cause. I recently watched a documentary on the Marinship era and the birth of the Liberty ships, which represented innovation and manufacturing at its apex. People of all colors and backgrounds—including immigrants who poured into Marin—joined forces to build a fleet that supplied the world and stemmed the tide of destruction. They did it because they needed a step up, and they did it because they believed in the U.S. According to the National Park Service, this wasn’t just a small project; the shipyard was built from scratch in just 3 months, and in only 3.5 years, a diverse workforce of 20,000 people launched 93 ships. They proved that when we have a singular, righteous goal, the differences that seem so massive today suddenly become secondary. True leadership should bring people together for that kind of purpose, yet today we see the exact opposite. We don’t need more “sides.” We need to remember what it looks like to build something together. That is the only way forward.
