🚨 New Master Clinician! 🚨

Congratulations to Candice Calvert, COTA,TPM, who is our newest Master Clinician from Keystone APEX! She is an exceptional leader at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in southeast Austin, Texas.

Helping others recognize and reach their potential, both patients and clinicians alike, Candice leads with compassion, curiosity, and a genuine openness to innovation. Candice's Master Clinician project exemplifies this mindset, creating a meaningful functional improvement for a patient living with a persistent, progressive disease. Titled Short-wave Diathermy for Shoulder Pain and ROM Restoration, Candice demonstrated how evidence-based practice when applied consistently can yield meaningful outcomes for a complex population.

This work reflects our core value of Passion for Learning in action, advancing care with thoughtful application of clinical skills. In leading by example, Candice has elevated rehab services at Riverside and beyond. The Riverside team and the Keystone Apex market are super grateful for her dedication and passion; we look forward to building on her successes to continue making a positive impact in our facilities and communities.

"The ONE Clinical approach at Creekside led to collaboration with a physiatrist to bolster the contracture management programming for residents.

The team was working with a resident who has the aftereffects of a significant CVA, is from the Ukraine, and whose wife speaks English as a second language. In order to manage his muscle shortening and skin integrity, the team identified the need for Botox injections. The resident responded well; however, while at the appointment with PM&R, they sent a referral to National Seating & Mobility (NS&M) for a new wheelchair.

Once the referral was sent, Tegan Shuman, Therapy Program Manager, was contacted, and she facilitated a wheelchair evaluation. The process was working swimmingly when NS&M discovered insurance would not cover the chair. Because Tegan and team were so easy to work with and they wanted to continue the relationship, NS&M offered to construct a specialty wheelchair for the resident without cost and allow the resident to use the chair as long as needed. This is such a beautiful construct of networking that ultimately benefited the resident! To boot, this vendor has provided pressure mapping in the facility and has been able to get devices with an urgency we haven’t seen before in Idaho."
