🐴 Mission Monday: Ruby’s Story – The Heart of Pretty Horses Rescue 💙
Some rescues are easy to justify. Others? They challenge everything. Ruby was one of those horses.
When we found her, she was skin and bones, her hooves painfully curled upward from years of neglect. Most would have walked away, but we saw something in her—the quiet strength of a horse who just needed a chance.
💰 We purchased her for $300, knowing the real work was just beginning.
🩺 Vet care, farrier work, months of rehabilitation, and lots of love brought her back to life.
🏡 This sweet girl found a home, family, and purpose at Pretty Horses Rescue.
But we didn’t do this alone.
🌟 A fellow rescuer and an incredible human, Dana, stepped in to sponsor Ruby. 🌟
If you’ve ever been involved in dog rescue in Baja, you know Dana’s name well. Her heart for animals extends far beyond one species—because rescue isn’t just about saving lives, it’s about creating a network of compassion. She saw the value in giving Ruby a second chance, and because of her generosity, Ruby got to live out her golden years in peace.
A few months later, we rescued a young filly named Flossie, and Ruby stepped in as a mother figure, nurturing and guiding her like only a wise old mare could. Watching her give love after surviving so much herself was a reminder that these animals have so much to teach us.

We take in the ones others turn away. We lead with our hearts. And we are grateful for the rescue community that makes it all possible.
