For the last 10 years I have worked as a Mental Health Therapist with at-risk teens in San Luis Obispo County. Each one who has come through my door has made me feel honored to know them, and has driven me to find creative ways to help them succeed. It pushed me to dream big, and I am setting my sights on starting a non-profit for at-risk teens. To offer a program that combines job experience/training, life coaching, and mentorship in a way that fosters confidence and independence for these teens to be successful in life. Just like when I work with my teens, we start with the goal, and then set attainable objectives. The goal, to open a bakery & café in San Luis Obispo that offers yummy treats to the community, and provides employment to at-risk teens. To reach this goal I have got to get my treats, that until know have just been for friends and family, out in the community to start the foundation for the bakery. I will be having sweet treats available for taste from my home. I need to perfect my recipes before putting them out for sale. Once they have been perfected I look forward to hiring a few teens to help me sell them at local farmer’s markets. Each cookie, cupcake and pie will get this girl one step closer to opening her non-profit. Some say it takes a village, in this case it going to take a bakery to make change in a teen’s life.
