Tonight I celebrated (with the best desert ever!). This morning at 4am I attended my 11th birth in 2 months!! Needless to say it has been a busy two months and I'm so incredibly grateful to my family for supporting me while I do the work that I love. This work is incredibly demanding but incredibly rewarding that is why I'm so excited going forward to be working in a partnership with another Doula. Several of the births over the past two months were shared with my Doula partner and I am so excited for the sustainability for my family, for me and most importantly the families we serve! So here is to lots of hardwork and the amazing job that I have and the ability going forward to sustainably keep the job that I love! (And no not at the pace of 11 in 2 months ;) it was just an anomaly those two months!)

Nothing says on New Years like watching the New York ball drop at 9 and then taking a shower and crawling into bed at 10 because a baby might brewing! Happy New Year everyone can't wait to see what 2017 holds!!

Today is my Birthday which means today is HER BIRTH DAY! Today I celebrated my mother! That after giving birth six times she was willing to do it yet again! There is one thing I have learned about motherhood is that Mothers are amazing, strong, powerful and sometimes under-appreciated especially when it comes to giving birth! The sacrifice that a women makes to give the gift of life inspires me every time an amazing couple invites me into their birth space. So today while my family celebrated me, I took the time to celebrate HER, my amazing mother, her willingness to sacrifice and suffer to give me life.

A Midwife and a Doula go on a hike and talked about...the weather ;) Ok and maybe a little bit about birth!
So amazingly grateful for the birth community in Marin and the willingness of care providers to collaborate with labor support!
The view, the company and the conversation was amazing this morning!

Leaving a birth last night, no that's not my left over dinner, it's just a Placenta I was delivering to the encapsulator!

I have to fight back the tears with this photo! I love these three little boys with all my heart! Doula work is hard, it is crazy hours but I LOVE it. Watching a women become a mother is so humbling, each and every time!

These three little boys don't get to see that, all they know is that mom is gone at a birth, "helping moms with their babies"! Thankfully they have an amazing Dad who holds down the fort so well!

This past weekend with two babies in one day I felt the strongest need to connect with these boys. Doulas talk a lot about self care, getting a massage, etc. But taking these boys out to dinner (without Dad who had to catch up on his work) to a place they requested (going next door to chipotle for one child who didn't like the restaurant) and getting a delicious dessert was all the self care I could ask for.

This job is hard and I know it's hard on my boys but I wouldn't change it for anything! I pray that these boys grow up knowing the immense power that women hold and to not fear that power but to embrace it, celebrate it and encourage it!

I keep a record of all of the moms and babies I have supported. This past weekend was especially cool when I got to enter in the birthdates of two babies, born on the same day!!!

That was a busy and amazing weekend!! I feel so blessed to do what I do as I watch women find their inner strength and become mothers, each birth is amazing and humbling. I am continually humbled that parents choose me to share this very special and sacred time with them.
